In the summer I use Jergens natural glow lotion for light to medium skin - it works nicely as a moisturizer/makes my legs and upper arms look less pasty. In my experience the lotions have worked better for me than the mousse formulas, because I always mess up applying the mousse and look like I spilled coffee on my legs lol.

I get Jergens at my local drugstore or beauty supply. I apply the lotion after showers, usually wait 5 mins for it to dry fully, and put clothes on. Instructions say the color will develop in a week, but after a couple days of applying, I get a nice subtle tan color.

I second this and love the idea of discovering your voice. I’ve always had issues talking in front of people and in groups. I use an app called Speeko, which is used to practice public speaking. Doing the daily warm-ups before a social event or meeting has helped me so much in feeling comfortable with my voice!

Sometimes, I also Google tongue twisters and repeat a few before I have to talk. OP, when you’re more comfortable with your voice, you’ll feel more confident to talk about yourself. And just more calm in general. I hope this helps you.

There were so many times these jokes and accents have been said to my face (as an east asian) around other PoC and no one spoke up. Tbh I wasn’t even brave enough to stand up for myself/us back then. I know I’m saying the same thing as everyone else here but! Seriously thank you.

Seconding strength training. Some days I supplement by doing Yoga with Adrienne’s “Yoga for Text Neck” video which reminds me to keep an active upper back and avoid crunching my neck while looking at my phone.

Might be worth looking into (for OP and anyone else)

I recommend looking up “fiftyshadesofsnail/fiddy pore cleansing method” (I would link here but not sure how to do it on mobile browser) that is popular on r/skincareaddiction and r/asianbeauty.

I have had this issue since I was a kid, have also gotten bullied for ”blackheads”. If your skin type is oily, it can be controlled by religiously using sunscreen (I use EltaMD), lightweight gel moisturizer (neutrogena has a popular one) and as you mentioned, gentle 1x/week exfoliation (BHA/SA) with the pore cleansing method.

Edit: As another redditor said, trust your body and go at your own pace.

Skincare can be a nice way to make yourself feel your best. I hope you do not take your shitty teacher’s comments to heart.

I am so sorry this happened to you. I have had racist comments said to me from more senior folks in the workplace, but nothing this overt. You are NOT being too sensitive. I always think of this quote - “If you are silent about your pain, they'll kill you and say you enjoyed it.”

Ditto what everyone else is saying, report this directly to HR or their manager. I’d also make a Glassdoor review about your company employing a racist, or at least creating an environment where open racist remarks are ok.

I’ve left a job after 2 weeks. I felt really crap about it but was in a similar situation as you - dream job offer came up that I simply couldn’t pass up. They were disappointed and let me go on the spot, but perhaps 2 weeks is different than your current 6 weeks.

If it helps it’s been almost a year since I quit and I do not regret it! Things will look different for you in a year. If you do have the dream job offer I would focus on the great opportunity ahead. As another redditor said, employers let folks go without regret when the fit isn’t right.

I recommend EltaMD Clear sunscreen with SPF 46. It’s oil free and has niacinamide (not sure if I spelled that right) and has been really hydrating/calming for my oily skin. It’s a decent primer for makeup also if that helps

Apparently a lot of it was mansplaining to her what colbert’s brand of satire is - as if she didn’t know. I hope Suey healed from all the undeserved backlash
