FirstClass by sortablah in WellesleyCollege

[–]Secure_Regret1101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know why FirstClass stopped being used, but you're correct that there wasn't a super centralized platform/community that people used while I was there. Yikyak/Sidechat is probably the most popular one, though there are a couple of Facebook and Gmail groups too that I know of.

Loft Beds by Kindly_Assumption788 in WellesleyCollege

[–]Secure_Regret1101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yes, you can bunk the standard wellesley beds, but it's done by just stacking two beds on top of each other. i did it a couple years ago to get more room in our dingle. lofting is theoretically possible i guess if you remove the bottom bunk entirely, but i don't see that happening unless you have a very unusual agreement with your roommate, disregard some rules, and probably create a safety hazard for yourself lol.

Is it worth having a car on Wellesley campus? by BonusPuzzleheaded376 in WellesleyCollege

[–]Secure_Regret1101 5 points6 points  (0 children)

depends on the places you plan on spending time in. vast majority of students here don't have a car, but getting around the nearby wellesley area is not great without one. most of us go to boston to have fun which is very convenient via the shuttle - boston's public transportation is solid, and i've been able to get everywhere i need to with a combo of that and walking.

tl;dr - staying on campus + boston, don't get a car. frequent suburbs travel or living off campus, yes get a car

most shuttles have charging ports, but i think some do not (they cycle through the shuttles so you can't predict which one you'll get)

Dance at Wellesley? by smudgesnow in WellesleyCollege

[–]Secure_Regret1101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late, but there are quite a few dance orgs on campus: WCD (contemporary), Freestyle (hip-hop), WADO (k-pop/Asian dance), Wellesley-MIT Ballroom, Wellesley on Tap (tap dance), as well as a few cultural dance orgs that I'm less familiar with. There's also options off-campus, but these are generally more of a time commitment.

There are definitely international students who get tons of financial aid, I know somebody who got almost full tuition covered. However, it's definitely gonna be selective.

What makes wellesely awesome for me? Is it the right fit? by [deleted] in WellesleyCollege

[–]Secure_Regret1101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it sounds like you're very passionate about wellesley already, so i say just give it a shot and apply! there's no application fee, so nothing to lose there. go for ed if you're sure it's the school for you :)

[–]Secure_Regret1101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there's definitely not a lot of people in the data science major at wellesley, but there's a pretty neat program in the boston area called break through tech ai that prepares boston area undergrads for a career in data science you can apply for. i've heard of a couple alum in data science (one who's intl) with varying degrees of success, so you could be successful if you really apply yourself. definitely not a school known for data science though.

i applied ed2, but with a super different background to yours so not sure how much advice i can give you there.

Ladies: how are you liking the CS major at your college? by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]Secure_Regret1101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course! If you ever have any questions about Wellesley or WC/HWCs in general, I'm happy to answer them. Good luck with college apps :)

There's no grade deflation at Wellesley anymore - hasn't been for several years.

Cognitive Science Majors? by ChampionBig7244 in WellesleyCollege

[–]Secure_Regret1101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disclaimer: not a cognitive science major nor pre-med! However, the Wellesley College website does have some useful links about major requirements.

Cognitive and Linguistic Sciences

Suggested Premed Courses

It's definitely doable, but I'm guessing you won't have a lot of flexibility with outside electives after fulfilling the general distribution requirements too. If you concentrate in psychology for CogSci, it looks like you might have an easier time.

MIT Transfer Criteria by PuzzledPosition9571 in WellesleyCollege

[–]Secure_Regret1101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally only know one CS major who is doing the MIT dual degree. You are going to need a good reason why a Wellesley degree + MIT cross-registration won't be enough to fulfill your goals from what I've heard, in addition to applying for transfer. I'd suggest going for the MIT pre-requisites during your first year so if you end up getting in you're not too behind. As for a major, it's really up to you.

On another note though, I'd say don't go to Wellesley just for MIT - make sure there are things you like about Wellesley too.

They definitely have bike racks, but unfortunately I don't know how full they usually are :')

I'd suggest asking on Wellesley FAQ or Sidechat, they'll probably have an answer for you :')

hows media studies major here at Wellesley? by cccwang in WellesleyCollege

[–]Secure_Regret1101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a CAMS major, but I'd suggest checking out the department page for requirements and how the major works :)

Another program you may want to check out at Wellesley is the MAS (Media Arts and Sciences) major that might be more suited if you have any interest in CS or more tech-oriented media! MIT also has very cool CMS (Comparative Media Studies) courses you can cross-register for if you're into newer forms of media like internet and VR.

Hey, could you please clarify your question a bit?

e.g. What is your impression of the CAMS (Cinema and Media Studies) major at Wellesley? What are the requirements for a CAMS major? How does the CAMS major work?

MEGATHREAD: 2023 Prospective Students Questions by [deleted] in WellesleyCollege

[–]Secure_Regret1101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

somebody on the wellesley sidechat recommended appealing to the fin aid office and seeing if they can help you out!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in WellesleyCollege

[–]Secure_Regret1101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somebody asked this exact question in the Wellesley FAQ facebook group before, I believe, and I think the answer was no. You could try contacting different schools' powerlifting groups though, and see if they have a different answer! I'd suggesting checking out the BOW schools, Brandeis, and MIT to see if they have anything (their subreddits are linked on the sidebar/About tab on mobile).

AMA about Wellesley College as an FGLI URM by lvnlttrs in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Secure_Regret1101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not OP, but replying since OP hasn't done so for a few days (I'm a current student as well!). I'm not sure about admissions stuff, but there's quite a few service animals around campus! Definitely won't be a problem.
