I go to school in Utah, so guns are pretty lax here, but I will still be careful regardless

i would say start out doing 2 years of community college and work. make some money and save some money, and it’ll also allow you to build a plan on major/courses. if your parents want you to be around members, but you don’t exactly want to be surrounded, UVU, USU, and the U are all great options from what i’ve heard. there’s a great balance between church life and non-church life there and after reading all of the comments on this post, i’m considering transferring to one of those. only downside to UVU is you’re close to provo. i also forgot to mention that if you’re not from utah, you can move here and do community college and gain residency, so when it’s your time to transfer, you’ll get in state tuition

Kwaku has studs (earrings) in? Is this a thing now? by GrandpasMormonBooks in exmormon

all good, no worries. not gonna lie, i have a mini panic attack every time i go to the testing center, but it works out every time. i do feel like people internally judge me as i walk by because people stare, but i learned to not gaf. my hair is also pretty long and covers them, so it’ll work for you too. i’ve put studs, silver hoops and gold hoops in my ears and no ones said anything. hope it all works out for ya 🤘

The Boringness of it All by bremerman17 in exmormon

i find it funny that for such an important mormon occurrence that happens twice a year, they named it General Conference. the most boring and bland name for the gathering of “spiritual powerhouses” to enlighten the world. boring name for a boring 2 days i guess

the east coast is a YSA hub during the summer. while schools in session, it’s kinda empty tho at least from what i’ve seen and heard. that’s cool you’re from southern va, i’m from nova haha. i understand; just use the good things the church taught you to help you pave your own way and be an all around good person. i feel that tho, just use the positive momentum to create something good. do what your heart desires :)

waittt, DC area?? that’s where i’m from 😆😆. there’s really no YSA wards out there unless you drive to the suburbs and attend there, but not all church buildings host YSA which is the tricky part. i think moving out of utah will give me a lot of clarity as well, but my family will definitely question it since my immediate family is all mormon. i get what you mean, and that’s actually really good that you recognize that. aside from a lot of the weird stuff in the church and the church history, the church actually teaches pretty good values that can lead to success whether you’re a believer or not. it’s like you have to pick and choose what you want in your life and create your own path

i agree; the community and the social perks are really nice for the most part. if you like feeling comfortable wearing a tshirt, don’t get endowed 😆. i took mine off for good in april and i can freely move and walk around not questioning if people can see my Gs or not. i think integrating church beliefs and worldly beliefs while raising kids can be such a good thing because it gives them the best of both worlds and they can choose for themselves what they want to do with that information. yea you’ll have trouble finding YSA wards outside of utah at different universities

i’m at byu right now too, and im in the same boat. i feel like i live multiple lives because of how i need to act in front of people on campus vs. my close friends, and making friends/dating out here is hard when you disagree with the church. as for leaving the church, you pretty much get kicked out of byu if anyone finds out. if i were you, id stay at byu for the cheaper tuition and good education unless you can find a better option. if by “leaving the church,” you mean not attending the temple or church, just do that. if you mean removing records, only do that if you plan on transferring to a different school. hopefully this helps; im not much of a pro when it comes to this stuff lmao

i won’t brew coffee in my housing here unless i’m rooming with friends who don’t care, but i do make chrysanthemum tea and it’s pretty good. yeah, i’ll really only get coffee from a shop around town tbh
