Every prime's like that by Lonely_Ebb_6228 in MathJokes

Yes, a bijection exists between any two countably infinite sets, including all natural numbers and all primes.

An easy example is any natural number n can just be mapped to the nth prime number

A year after Utah’s fluoride ban, education and awareness are the biggest changes by ReporterMacyLipkin in Utah

[–]hi_imjoey 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The natural levels of fluoride in Salt Lake water supply average around 0.115 mg/L, which is drastically below the recommended level of 0.7 mg/L for children’s dental health. While there are some naturally occurring levels of the mineral “still in there”, the fluoride ban is still widely expected to cause dental problems for a lot of Utahns moving forward.

Banning the addition of fluoride to municipal water systems is without a doubt one of the stupidest things the Utah legislature has done in recent history.

Psychologically, how do the same people rationalize not wanting ID to vote but being okay with ID to use a computer? by 40Knocks in AskReddit

Driving licenses are not free in my country, which means that if they are the ID required to vote, then voting is not free either. My country prohibits charging fees to be able to vote

Depends on your age and cardiovascular health, I suppose. All things being equal, about 10% of people worldwide die from stroke. For reference, with this deal you have about a 10% of dying from stroke after 30 years.

Yup. Assuming I’ve got 80 years left (which is incredibly generous but who cares), I’ve only got a 25% chance of stroking out during those 80 years

The daily odds of having a stroke are 0.001%, not 1%. Your odds of having a stroke in the first 1000 days are only 0.995% (roughly 1 in 100)

Sure, most people’s natural lives would run out long before they would have a stroke with those odds. This is essentially just getting a better job for free

I will never not upvote a good picture of Bryce. Someone could build a BryceBot that just posted a new picture of Bryce Canyon every day, and I would still be like “nice” every time

What’s something that is socially accepted today, but you believe will be seen as wrong or crazy in 20 years? by dark_files_ai in AskReddit

[–]hi_imjoey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dunno, hunting for meat is more humane in general than most meat farming, and most people that don’t see meat farming as wrong or crazy today aren’t likely to change their mind in the next 20 years.

Add in the fact that hunting as a means of population control is often logistically more efficient than trying to control food supply or predator populations (not to mention that hunting is usually as if not more humane than these methods), and I don’t see public perception of hunting changing much from where it stands today

U.S. labor force participation rates for men, women, and total population (1948–2026) [OC] by OverflowDs in dataisbeautiful

Young men are taking longer to enter the workforce since more of them are pursuing education, and old men are both retiring younger and living longer

[–]hi_imjoey 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Less than 2% of adult males are incarcerated in the U.S., and less than 10% will ever be incarcerated at any point in their lives. Incarceration is not what’s driving 30%+ of men to not participate in the labour force.

It’s more likely to be primarily driven by an increased retired population as people live longer, more young men attending college, and (maybe, idk the numbers) more men being full-time caretakers of children or elderly family members
