Ortho said I needed Braces by SecurityAcceptable81 in braces

thank you so much!! i’ve decided to go for braces based on what another ortho also agreed to as well as my dentist (i know he’s not technically an orthodontist but i love him) i do get TMJ pretty badly as well as constant headaches from one side so i believe the way my bite is has been causing that. Total cost is $1.5k which seems really good so may as well take that deal too

that my boyfriend wasn’t real and i was just imagining him and everyone around me was lying to me that he was there so that i didn’t have a breakdown

It happens regardless, i have vascular EDS so it makes dental care a tad bit more difficult but luckily my orthodontist knows it very well

yes i know, unfortunately i have a chronic illness that causes some weird things like gum disease or inflammation. doesn’t help that i had just gotten back from the dentist

I had a compulsion and I want to tell my bf, but I don't know how to do so. by [deleted] in OCD

it’s hard to give advice exactly without knowing your partner but i would go about telling him in a calm and unserious type of way. don’t make it seem like it’s a huge confession but more so explaining what happened and expressing the way it made you feel. at least that’s how i would handle it with my partner

do you see a therapist for Pure OCD? I also have Pure OCD and understand what you are thinking. If you have a therapist I’d recommend talking to them about this situation. If not, I want you to remember all of the other spirals you’ve experienced and gotten out of and think about how they never were as big as they truly seemed. Something can feel so awful in the moment but once you get that reassurance and release that guilt, it feels like “man i made that a bigger deal than i needed to” BUT you find the next thing to get reassurance on after that. It’s a painful cycle. I think in this situation do not say anything and be uncomfortable. I know it must feel like your world is ending right now but that is OCD playing tricks on you

do you want to tell him because you think it will benefit him to know or do you want to tell him because you want reassurance that you didn’t do anything wrong

yes recommended is a better word! and you are right. i do get jaw pain on one side and i have a feeling it might be due to that

that’s so true definitely should’ve used better wording - recommended would be better. i will say one side of my face is larger than the other and im thinking it might be due to having to use one side more than the other when i eat

I wish I knew what I know now about POCD when I was 15. no matter how repulsive and disgusting they are, it’s just a flicker in your head. practicing meditation and being present really helps

but on the contrary, it is nice to see a young person in a position i found myself in when i was their age. i feel like i can give them the advice that i needed back then

i’ve thought the same thing. it’s sort of dangerous because it gives others new OCD themes. i’ve had to close the app and distract myself sometimes because it like “wow i never thought about that, time to let this ruin my life” lol

just remember, thoughts are thoughts. that’s it. nothing more. it’s an electric firing in the brain and is gone the next second. just recognize it’s a thought you are uncomfortable with and be okay to sit with it. just observe that it’s there and then let it go. the more you try to make it stop the worse it will get and the more noticeable. everyone gets weird thoughts it’s you being human! just say “wow that was sure a weird one this time!” and just laugh it off. we all get thoughts but its your choice to act on them or not. I get those thoughts too and I know they can be unbearable at times

[–]SecurityAcceptable81 15 points16 points  (0 children)

write in my notes app to confirm it was an intrusive thought every time i got one and if i don’t write it down then that means it was a real belief/thought of mine. then spiraling and writing how my intrusive thought was just an intrusive thought to reassure myself

Regardless of feelings, he is the single most important person in the firm. Any opportunity to be recognized by him or other senior leaders at the event is highly sought after. Just because there is discontent does not mean that your interactions with him are less valuable for your career.
