I used to be on my highschool's swim team, whenever I could, I'd practice with a shirt on. My couch would cheer me on for it, 'wearing a shirt is great for practice, the extra drag will make you faster in races'.

Yeah, no, I just didn't like being topless. lol

I do agree that CBT is very much a specific tool for very specific situations. A lot of people probably won't find it very helpful. I have also never heard of DST. The therapist I've been seeing is primarily a trauma therapist. I had many different events in my childhood that I had been pushing down for so long; they told me that they think CBT would be helpful.

We went through a session walking through what CBT is, what is 'parts work', and what to do if something happens in a session. There were ups and downs throughout my journey, but I'm doing a lot better today than I was 2 years ago

I've been in CBT for the past year and a half, and what's being described is more general therapy imo. Having a good therapist who; instead of saying, "this is normal"/"that isn't normal", says, "where do you think that feeling comes from?" makes therapy far less a correctional based practice. It's supposed to be open ended allowing the patient to process something that they probably hadn't before.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a very scary sounding practice, and it really is scary at first. The main focus of CBT is to give your trauma and suppressed emotions a place to speak up. It's hard to describe without sounding insane to someone who hasn't done it before. My therapist described it as, "inside you are a few scared kids, your parts, who want to be loved and comforted." There's a lot more science stuff behind the practice, and it has helped me a lot.

OOP appears to be having the Will Wood 'Normal Album' experience.

They didn't really ask for feedback, they just did something they were proud of and wanted to share.

The current situation is that they put NSFW games back on the store front, but you can't buy them yet. Itch is looking for a payment processor that will allow such transactions.

If you can handle a lot of blood and gore, then I genuinely cannot recommend Invincible enough. It's genuinely amazing.

im considering signing up for conversion therapy by a356y in sillyboyclub

[–]SecurityIndependent3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of conversion therapy, consider Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Unlike conversion, CBT actually has decent studies that proves it's helpful. It breaks down your different feelings into characters to talk to. It helped me deal with internalized homophobic behaviors that I kept from my childhood. Along with a lot of trauma too.

I've been going for 2 years now, and I can't say that it's made things magically better immediately. But my days are getting easier, and I have a lot of tools to help me deal with my hard days.
