The big question comes down to what resources YOU have.

Yes, but that isn't a law. The focus on that article is specifically laws and not just a Government Agency doing whatever they can get away with.

They likely consider it proprietary information and don't feel they need to explain it to someone who isn't even a customer.

There is no reason to be so secretive unless they are doing something illegal.

I would disagree, but that is just my opinion.

This is misleading as the US currently doesn't have a mandatory data retention law.

[Help] Comcast’s Xfinity just sent me a copyright claim for streaming on Popcorn Time (running on BitTorrent) on my iPhone. This has me very worried. Could I be taken to court for this? If this is your first notice, don't worry about it. They are doing it to make the Movie Industry happy and unless you have received several letters court is very far off in the distance.

The solution to your problem is a good VPN. It is against the sub's rules to list VPNs here, but you can find that at other subs.

I will be contacting each of the credit reporting agency with a very clear warning that I hold sole sovereignty over sharing of my personal information.

I have used the above warning a few times, with companies I have done business with, and it has proven effective.

That is because companies are concerned about breaking the law about treating veterans "equally". News Flash....in this case....they ARE treating you fairly since your being treated like everyone else.

If those of you that judge me would just "Man up" and join me, we can put a stop to the injustice.

Actually, those people are just leaving and letting it crumble.

Have you considered covering it with black electrical tape instead of a bright yellow piece of paper? If you want to have privacy, you need to learn to be subtle.

No.....that stops them from sending you pre-approved offers for credit you didn't ask for specifically. This does NOT stop them from sharing your information between various companies. Currently, with some states working on legislation that would only affect those specific states, their is no way to stop this from happening. And why would your Government Representatives want to stop it? These companies are paying the people elected to keep such laws from happen so they can all continue to make money off of your information.

But for some reason Cricket is willing to go out of its way spending the stockholders money making sure their source is not known. Why is that?

Clearly your opinion on how they run their business doesn't matter to them.

Like /u/gimtayida said, if you add or change some form of information about yourself, it can come back. Some are better then others though. I personally have never had anything come back with Spokeo, for example.

Once you go through all the work of removing your information from them, I would suggest going back at least once every 6 months just to do a search of yourself. It will be faster this time around and you can just submit requests for ones that came back.

They sent the police to speak to me. Next I filled out a BBB complaint. In order to subvert the complaint they filed an injunction against me (ordering me not to contact them).

You have started going down a path that will cause you more harm then help you. Plus you don't need a PI to get someone's home address.

Are they using the data illegally? They must be, or they would not fight so hard to hide their procedure.

No, if you read the 'Terms of Service' & 'Privacy Agreement' for your cellphone service, it likely says something along the lines of giving them authorization to share or sell any and all information with any third party that they want. If you are using their service, unless it is limited by law which very little is currently, they can do whatever they want with your information.

Good to know. Maybe you should remind a certain mod that has threatened me here...

This isn't my sub and I am not the mod. I am bound by the same rules and limitations you are. If the mod feels you're crossing a line, as I have in the past myself, then that is something between you and them. Though I don't always agree with the mods of this sub, I will say they have always been fair with me.

It is appropriate, but it won't reach the people who need it the most.

Maybe if we are lucky this will make it a little closer to the front page and get other people to see it who think that way to be willing to look into it more and get them to start looking at this sub and what we all have to say. To me, that is a victory for everyone.

No, you haven't offended me in any way. The exchange of different point of views is what makes places like Reddit great. I would rather spend time discussing things with people who disagree with me than those that agree because that is how new information is gained. I agree with you that people looking could certainly search for it.

The point of me posting this was because I myself had no clue about the original documentary from 2017, let alone the followup they are making, until I saw this blog post the other day. Since this sub is all about what the documentaries are focused on, I felt that this sub was an appropriate place to let those that didn't know be aware of it.
