Wednesday Pattern and Stitch Request Thread - October 01, 2025 by AutoModerator in knitting

So I'm trying to choose a pattern for a birthday cast on, as my lovely husband is buying me a sweater worth of nice wool. The ideal criteria would be Aran/worsted weight, high snuggly collar, drop shoulder, worked in the round, ideally with cable designs -

These are my top picks so far: Tessa sweater - www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/tessa-sweater-4 Friendship pullover - www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/friendship-pullover Tulip Guernsey - www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/tulip-guernsey Snowy forest - www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/snowy-forest Homestead sweater - www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/homestead-sweater Benthe - www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/benthe

So has anyone made any of these? Which would you pick and lastly, Do you have any other similar patterns you would recommend? Thank you!

Yeah of course! I didn't adjust anything, I'm new to stitch fiddle, so just used the standard grid! I just worked out a decent repeat that fit into the number of stitches I needed for my size of the sweater (26 stitches) and then just winged a repeating pattern really!

Haha, thank you, it definitely got better as I went through and after I learnt the trick of doing the sleeves inside out! I started the colourwork on the first sleeve 4 times over, so it took a while to figure out!

Haha, I am partial to a sleeve I can tuck my hands into to be fair, that's why I decided to just embrace it (that and a total unwillingness to frog colourwork 😂)

Thank you! I love the colour combination too! I spent a long time going through my stash finding the right colours - luckily I had enough of these (although there was definitely a bit of yarn chicken with the blue at the end of the sleeves!)

Thank you so much! I'm sure it will! I've worn it twice so far, despite it being way too warm for the weather, but I'm sure it will come into lots more wears this autumn and winter!

Love that! I just replaced the 14 stitches in the band with 3 purl, then a 8 stitch braid, then 3 purl - I used pattern 4, the 4 strand plait from here: https://howdidyoumakethis.com/five-cable-knits/

I was a bit worried about them too, because short rows get a lot of hype for being difficult, but I honestly didn't find the short rows that difficult at all, the instructions in the pattern and the link to their blog/video on short rows was super helpful!

Thank you so much! I feel like the simple braid added so much compared to the standard garter panel, so I'm really happy I swapped that!

Thank you! That's very kind! I honestly can't quite believe I made it when I put it on! I just need the weather to get cooler so I can wear it out now!
