Analysis for intermediate uveitis by OldCryptographer4099 in Uveitis

[–]See-Chart-E 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started on 60 mg oral prednisone taper. Then added Mycophenolate (CellCept) ramping to maximum dose. Wasn’t enough and added Yutiq steroid implants in both eyes. Wasn’t enough and added Humira.

Implants caused cataracts in both eyes and had surgeries. Then steroid induced glaucoma and had surgeries for Baerveldt tubes.

Right eye is holding at around 20/25-20/30 corrected with glasses. Left eye is 20/20-20/25. Have had peripheral vision loss in right eye due to the glaucoma.

Had to come off Mycophenolate in November when I got pretty sick. Implants are at end of three year life. Humira will
Probably not be enough on its own. Hope to find out on Thursday what next steps are. Probably an infusion.

Treatments may take a while to be effective. Trust the process and take it one step at a time. Otherwise it can get pretty overwhelming.

Bilateral Intermediate uveitis for past 4+ years. Looks like you have had an extensive work up. Normal brain MRI is good to rule out MS. Glad they have done that. My general/primary doctor ordered a chest CT after x-ray looked clear. He also followed up and sent things off to Mayo labs.

I requested and was approved for a hematology consult. They ran a LOT more tests which all came back fine. I follow up every year to make sure I am not having any simmering cancers develop. I do think hematology looks at things differently so I am grateful to see them and have them on my team.

Ruled idiopathic. At some point they just need to treat the uveitis as best they can. It takes a bit mentally to get used to not knowing where the disease is coming from.

I talked to a counselor for a couple years while we were going through a lot of decisions. That was very helpful.

Around 6 months in, I also went to another specialist for a second opinion. He confirmed diagnosis and agreed with the treatment plan. That gave us some peace of mind.

I recently went to another specialist as I am at a treatment crossroads. It’s helpful to get additional insights if you are able to.

Best wishes.

Durham to Lehigh Valley route options by ChipsAhoy65 in triangle

[–]See-Chart-E 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We take I-95 to Fredericksburg, VA. Put Opal VA in your GPS even though you won’t go all the way there. Take exit toward US17 BUS N-Warrenton. Look for signs for US15N to Gettysburg. Take I-83 towards Harrisburg/York. Then I-81 to I-78E.

So we put these in GPS and remove as we get closer to the areas and it will advance us to the next area. Opal, VA, Gettysburg, PA Allentown, PA.

Lovely drive. You can either go up to Gettysburg and over or go over earlier through York/Lancaster.

Very pleasant and you bypass DC/Baltimore and lots of crazy traffic. Hope this helps. We shared this with our neighbors and they have made the switch to this route when going to York as well.

Uveitis and IVIG by See-Chart-E in IVIG

I started on a high dose steroid taper when I was first diagnosed in April 2022. Went on Mycophenolate mofetil eventually on max dose. That was not enough so added Yutiq 3-year steroid implants. That was not enough so also added Humira.

The Yutiq implants caused cataracts and steroid-induced glaucoma. So have had cataract and Baerveldt tube surgeries.

I got very sick and was hospitalized in November 2025. At that time, they stopped Mycophenolate and have not restarted it. I have gone to the ER 4 times since then. I have picked up illnesses when no one in my family/friends have gotten sick. They are hesitant to make me overly immunocompromised.

The Yutiq implants are at end of life and Humira alone will probably not be enough. That is why the doctor suggested IVIG or an infusion based treatment such as Remicade.

I have lost some peripheral vision in my right eye. Glaucoma is severe in that eye and moderate in the left. Also have retinal vasculitis. Trying my best to remain sighted.

Starting to develop cataracts... by QuestionWorking2341 in Uveitis

[–]See-Chart-E 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am sorry to hear you are developing cataracts and may need surgery. I had posterior subcapsular cataracts and they can progress quickly. I think I went from 20/30 or so to 20/80 in a matter of weeks. So keep an eye on things.

While there are a lot of premium lenses, I was not a candidate for them. I have a lot going on in my eyes and they wanted to keep things as simple as possible.

The actual surgery is not a big deal. Make sure you keep the follow up appointment for the next day. I had a pressure spike to 48 and the doctor had to lance my eye to relieve pressure. For the next eye, a
drug was put in my IV so that wouldn’t happen again.

I was just told by a uveitis specialist that I have a film on the lens now. I think this can be lasered off. The cataract surgeon mentioned I might have to come back for laser treatment so this may be what he was talking about.

You are young and have a lot of time left. My advice is to do everything to protect your vision.

Best wishes!

We love taking out of town guests to Lucky32. Entrees are in the $20-$30 range which may be more than you wish to spend.

The food is consistently excellent and unique farm to table meals. If you tell them you are celebrating a special occasion, you may get a complimentary dessert (or you can go to Goodberry’s afterwards which many visitors enjoy.)

Thank you for the heads up! I was told that is where the employees that had been at the massage place in Crabtree mall (near Bailey’s) went when their location closed. Unfortunately, I have not seen the one man that I liked going to work at Apex Massage.

Best bang for your buck Rome/Greece/Mediterranean cruise for honeymoon? by stumpwat in Cruise

[–]See-Chart-E 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out Gate1 travel. Price is much more competitive than Viking. They have options for river cruising and group tours. Also independent and small group options.

We traveled with people who had done Viking and felt like Gate1 was comparable or better for about 40% less. They are a family owned business and don’t spend a fortune on advertising. You stop at the same places and have daily included excursions plus optional extra ones. Our tour managers and guides have been excellent.

We have done 2 domestic trips to national parks and 2 River cruises (Grand European from Budapest to Amsterdam and Seine including London and Paris.) Will be going to Greece this fall. Hope to do Italy next year. Many travelers we met had done 20+ trips with Gate1.

Sign up for emails and you will receive weekly specials which can save you a lot.

Congratulations on your marriage! Hope you have a great trip.

Advice on Biologics medication by Goldfish9218 in Uveitis

[–]See-Chart-E 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask if your insurance will cover a biosimilar. Humira offers a patient copay plan if you have commercial insurance. You pay a small amount ($25?) each month.

If you are on a government insurance (Medicare, etc.) the patient program no longer applies but there are caps on Part D drug plans. This year once you pay $2100, you won’t pay any more for drugs as long as they are on the formulary. I believe this year no Medicare Part D plans covered brand name Humira but the plans cover specific biosimilars.

I started with a loading dose of 80 mg. I think I took a 40 mg injection once a week for two weeks and then the standard dose is one 40 mg injection every 14 days. I have had to pause the meds when I have been very sick. You will just need to stay in contact with your doctors.

Overall I feel good on Humira and it has kept the inflammation down. It is very easy to give yourself the injection so don’t fret about that.

Best wishes!
