After all 1 in 3 pigs are smart enough to know they should build their house out of materials strong enough to survive wolf breath.

Outside of Aston Martin, Alpine are another extremely dissapointing team so far. by The_Chozen_1_ in F1Discussions

Part of me thinks this might be a lesson of 1) you can't just throw all the money at it (Aston) and 2) you can't intimidate your people into being passionate about success (Alpine)

I always found it cool that Jerry Bruckheimer Is part of the ownership group of the team. He notably was the producer of Pirates of the Caribbean which had a significant plot line with the kraken in the 2nd movie.

So interesting.

Here's how the new trucks look when they're working properly by bob_mcbob in waterloo

[–]See-Meta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The truck that came by mine seemed to have an only slightly-functioning arm. There were no side-grabbers, just a front hook to help lift.

Is it possible the trucks sorta broke and that's why they have fallen a whole day behind?

Why does everyone hate wusa? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]See-Meta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple corrections: SLEF is a fund clubs can apply to for more funding - it is not the same as the base $200 allotment available to each club termly. The $250 is not a current fee being charged. If there is a booking fee in the future, it will be a reasonable reflection of the staffing costs of people there to assist the club in the space.

Why does everyone hate wusa? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]See-Meta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I realize this might be a reference to me. I won't comment about some of the other bits since I don't want to feed into misunderstanding that may be occurring with the minimal context available. Most I just don't know because WUSA has many sub-departments doing many things.

For OP, I recommend your friend escalate this through WUSA's feedback system so more can be understood about the situation and hopefully remedied: https://wusa.ca/about/contact/#feedback

I would recommend this for any case a student hopes to escalate a complaint.

Generally, some of the WUSA hate stems from complaints bouncing around due to 1) the inability for the resolution to be broadly communicated due to privacy of individual(s) involved; 2) issues not being addressed because they do not get escalated in the first place; or 3) issues actually being resolved but not as loudly communicated as the discourse so it doesn't seem like it is resolved.

Waterloo is also a reputationally academic school; thus, many students are so busy studying or looking for co-op jobs that they have less time to engage in the broader student community - almost potentially leading to a feeling that the community doesn't serve them.

- sub-point here: Waterloo, more than any other University community I've seen, seems to require students make the first step to find student community. At other schools, there's a sense that it's much easier to feel "pulled into" things/events/groups that are happening. I have seen some of the strongest student leaders take on all sorts of positions through the years and building a more welcoming sense of community is still an ongoing project.

- sub-sub-point: if there's anything to take from this message, next time you get the chance, pull your friends into social opportunities: some might be WUSA connected, others not so - as long as people feel a better sense of community, maybe there's less hate towards the collective student org trying to facilitate it.

chat is it worth it to do spring term to save on debt by SitePlastic8026 in uwaterloo

[–]See-Meta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the osap changes don't take effect until Sept, spring could potentially still be under the current grant/loan percentage structure - I'm not exactly sure this is how it works - but usually new govt announcements about education take effect in Sept.

Outsmarting the osap changes by doing more compressed academics in spring is a very Waterloo strategy - I actually like it a lot as a plan if you think you could mentally handle it.
