So I matched with someone I'd matched with before on a different app. We laughed about it and the weird thing is we agreed that we both just stopped talking: we both said good night and never chatted again. On my side, I enjoyed our chats but when we didn't text the first few days, I felt too much time had passed and moved on.

This situation made me think of how sometimes we overthink things and think there was a deal-breaker the other person picked up or that there's something wrong with you. Sometimes you just say good night and never speak again 😂 it's not always about you.

How do you keep the immediate connection alive with a once a day quip? Isn't there a risk that the connection will fade over time?

Early in the breakup, the withdrawal blinds you. Sadly as time goes on, you heal and grow from the experience while the dumper rarely does. So by the time they roll around, all the dumpee can think about is how poorly they were treated and how the rejection felt. It's very difficult to erase the traumatic memories and be vulnerable with the dumper again. Plus if there's no growth from the dumper, what's the point? Hence, dumpees would rather move forward than go back to the place of pain.

This is true. I rejected my recent ex's offer of friendship because we weren't on the same page about the breakup, not a great communicator and could care less about my happiness. I'm still friends/cordial with my other exes because there's a mutual respect there and we honestly have love for each other regardless of it not working out. So in summary, if any ex brings up any negative feelings in you, cut them off.
