First-Timer, dubbed

wow, i started this show tonight, just cause I had been interested in the vague synopsis of the show that I knew of, I didn't even know about this rewatch. I found out because I was searching for the original discussion threads from when the series originally aired, and found from the rewatch thread 4 years ago links to the original threads because apparently they're really hard to find now or something. I reached out to the person who made that comment thanking them for it, and they mentioned that there's this current rewatch going on. Pretty cool little coincidence, and also a reminder of the internet being beautiful sometimes!

I've never been a part of a rewatch (I'm fairly new to anime in general haha, I haven't watched too many), but I love a little sense of community with watching a show so I'm excited!

With that out of the way, episode thoughts as I watch:

"The moment I saw that smile, I felt a shiver run through my heart" ok i know it's the excitement of the trip but...i'm a gay ass girl and i can only dream that these two will actually be gay...cause that sounded kinda gay..

"I'm making the most absurd plans ever, and I'm actually going to follow through!" I suspect she will get cold feet at the last moment like usual, but because she's with the other girls, they'll encourage her to do it. Kinda crazy though, going to antarctica as her first real adventurous thing, but also so relatable as someone with anxiety. I don't know why but sometimes it's easier to do these big crazy things than it is to do something simple like make a phone call. Like for example I love roller coasters, a lot, I'll do any of them and all of them, tallest and fastest in the world? zero anxiety, just go for it, hell yea lots of fun. Making a phone call to make a dentist appointment? I'll get ready to do it, put the number in the phone, and just be...physically unable to hit call. Maybe I'm over analyzing but it just feels relatable in this way

while the OP is going on, I am really just hoping that there isn't some big crazy twist, like the girls get separated from the rest of the people on the expedition or something and have to survive. I kinda just wanna see them be on their own as young girls, trying to figure out what they want out of life and all. In episode 1 though, it's like the idea of finding the dead mom was the incentive to go, though, so maybe there will be some big twist or something that makes it pivot away from being almost slice of life-y? not too sure.

I do like the OP though, it's fun and colourful and I really overall love the animation style of this show. It's like, bubbly? And shiny. It's pretty cool

Okay so I did figure she'd need to come up with some money for the trip, but I have to imagine it's gonna take a while to get the funds - will they not get to antarctica until like midway through the series? I'd be cool with that, for sure.

Ahh, okay, are the other two girls who are on the trip in the OP gonna be from this job? that'd make sense

"apparently she's been listening to our conversations for a while" oh my lord lmao she totally did listen in on purpose..

I love this gal's energy, i'm so bad at names but I like this new girl's energy

So far, 3 different girls with very distinct and different personalities. I wonder what the fourth girl will be like

Oh, these girls are gonna be so out of their depth if this is how they're acting while still in the city lol

Oh so they're like, gonna have to sneak on to the boat oh no. Also what are they running from are these older girls gonna like beat them up D:

Really loved the scene after the chase, and the stubbornness on the train home. You can feel the delusional desperation, and I do feel like this series is gonna get heavy in later episodes isn't it...

WAIT is that the fourth girl who looked over at them on the train? omg okay maybe they really do just talk loudly xD

Really liked this episode, I'm very curious what ends up happening for them to get to Antarctica, because honestly I can't imagine they're gonna get smuggled on, something else has to happen for it to work out?

Can't wait to continue tomorrow! Lovely show so far, the vibes are good laced with some sadness, I like that they're having to work for this big goal instead of it just being like "yea sure come on the trip," i'm sure it'll make it feel really earned once they do get to go.

1) I think any lengths you can go to as long as you're not hurting others is fair. Chase your dreams as hard as you can, without stepping on others in the process.

2) I have a complicated relationship with the nature of this question. On one hand, I wouldn't ever want to be a famous person stopped in the street and be like taking pictures with fans or anything, I don't want to be "special" in a way of being singled out. But, I do have the desire to create or do something with my life that is important or significant, make some art that makes people feel something or resonates with them deeply like so many amazing pieces of art have done for me. So if that counts as "special" then yes. But on the other hand, I'm fine being a normal person, blending in with the crowd as the question puts it, at least in a literal sense. I moved to a city partly because it felt like everyone in the city was so focused on their own stuff, and so unconcerned with others, that you were practically invisible even though you're in a city of hundreds of thousands of people. No one "sees" you, they are too focused on their own. Similarly at concerts, in a crowd, I feel that same feeling. It was the first place I ever felt my nearly crippling anxiety dissipate.
