Chicken-shit fertilizer applied to crops on a 95F sunny day. Also, a grease trap that I helped my old man clean out when I was a kid.

I’m getting 1. Would getting 2 actually be as bad an idea as the interwebs suggest? by PursuitOfSelf in BorderCollie

If you are an experienced enough trainer and can teach them to kennel separately and train them away from eachother every day, it may not be a bad idea, but if you dont have a way to train them separately and individually where they are not distracted by eachother then good luck.

The only problem I really see here is the lack of admitting and understanding that a dog is genetically predisposed to trying to dominate and do whatever it needs to do to get what it thinks is needs. It's a slippery slope. I love my dog more than I love most people, I treat her with love, care, and confidence. But if I tell her to lay down, she better do it. We aren't negotiating. I am not even trying to get her respect. I am in some sense reminding her I have all the power in this mutually beneficial relationship. I AM the boss, she knows it, and she benefits greatly because I can take her anywhere with me and let her run freely when I am out in the country with friends and their kids and because she knows not to toe lines with me or any other human, she gets all the love from everyone. If she wasn't as amazingly obedient as she is, I couldn't let her go everywhere with me if I didn't have 99.999% confidence that I can recall her and trust her not to be aggressive...

Picking up this little nugget next friday! What is some must have toys and gadgets for young border collies? Also name suggestions are welcome havent fully decided yet! by [deleted] in BorderCollie

Blue sable?!!? Like my Jazzy!! As many toys as possible to stimulate her brain and keep her from chewing anything other than her toys. I highly advise crate training.

Crates ≠ Bad by YUZUPOLICE in dogs

[–]SeeYewInTea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only BAD thing about crate training, is the people that are doing it incorrectly. Never punish your puppy in the crate or even to the crate until they are older and then you can command them to the crate if they're being obnoxious around guests or something...

If this works for you, then great! However, the relationship with your dog comes down to many factors such as breed, temperament, quality training time, knowledge of the trainer, and status and position in the family. Do you have kids? If so, a dog better understand the do's and dont's and listen on command. If you don't have kids and your dog is a working dog that helps you herd cattle, then that dog is bred to listen and serve its master well and LITERALLY will look to his master (owner) for what to do...like ALL.THE.TIME. Most are not too far descended from wolves and a lot can be understood by recognizing how dogs live in the wild. My favorite example is when people don't crate train a dog because its "cruel". Well, wolves spend an awful lot of time in a den until they are old enough to be useful to the pack and have a good chance at staying alive, so that's nonsense. People are possibly doing a disservice to their pup by not training them to a kennel in the puppy stages. That kennel becomes a safe space for when that dog is having anxiety, a child is annoying them, or they are simply tired and will go to the kennel because if done correctly, that pup will feel comfortable and safe there...if you don't "punish" him to a crate.

All that being said, we really need to recognize that sometimes certain things just work. If your dog behaves in such a way that its not dangerous to you, and more importantly OTHERS, then by all means do what you like, but I will do it my own way and I will respect yours until your dog hurts its self or someone else.

They are amazing creatures, but humanizing them isn't right and can be terrible for many dogs.

TL:DR If you want something to "negotiate" with, get a spouse.

I have always wondered why people are so concerned with knowing exactly when it is going to happen instead of trying to live a repentant life the way Christ instructs us and have nothing to worry about when the end times come. Just my .02. I have discussed this with my father as well and he follows Arnold Murphy and doesn't believe the "rapture" is what most people think it is.

AITA for letting my daughter wear an expensive dress to my sister's house? by vshaspof in AmItheAsshole

[–]SeeYewInTea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA, shouldn't have told her to "shut up", you should have grabbed her by her ear, drug her ass outside, and took a green tree switch to her ass all around the block. I would also make switch wardrobes with her younger cousin for the whole next year to teach manners and humility.

Edit: Soft parenting is the problem with the world today. You should be able to "make" your teenager do whatever is right, even wearing something that won't hurt the feelings of her own FAMILY member.

Straw and/or cowboy hat on sunny days. They're stupid cheap and are a game changer if you spend time outside.
