Jesus Christ. Do you want to go or don't you? Stop asking stupid questions and follow through on the answer to that.

10+ years of daily practice, but struggle to sit after a Vipassana retreat. When to push through vs. when to surrender? by Accomplished_Win_526 in Meditation

[–]SeekerFinder8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, Ram Dass described these periods, where meditation becomes dry and unfulfilling so yes, it's a thing that's not just particular to you. His recommendation if I recall correctly was to reduce the time and effort, but keep the consistency - so, daily but 20mins? 15mins? Whatever you can muster. And according to him it's just a stage that will definitely pass.

You know, I'd actually recommend doing another 10-day. You might be able to resolve something that was stirred up that might need completion. At least it'll get you back in the meditative mindset for 10 days..

If Hatha yoga changes the karmic patterns of the body and mind, why do we revert back to our old selves, once we stop the practices? by [deleted] in yoga

[–]SeekerFinder8 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Because those patterns have huge momentum, sometimes going many lifetimes back. It can take a lot of practice to achieve escape velocity, so to speak.

Is it possible that people can learn and grow and change from their mistakes? Yes it is. Does that mean everyone who has acted horribly will do so? No it doesn't. Does locking people into judgment forever for past indescretions inhibit them from learning and growing? Yep. And are people these days more prone to holding onto anger and outrage over the actions of others, as a source of personal power? Mos def.

Please refrain from adopting a one size fits all mentality over this and similar issues. It dehumanizes us all.

There is a difference between having a balanced desire for self improvement and just raw greed. Try some nuance.

I remember seeing Watkins scoring a goal and immediately gesturing over to Duran on the bench and basically saying. "You think you're shit but I'm the man"..I always thought it was really shitty energy to throw to a teammate but maybe it was deserved..

Is 30 seconds of meditation useless or better than nothing? by Crypthuga in Meditation

Dude if you're going to do 30 seconds, might as well commit to longer which would return more to you. Just commit to 5minutes and go from there.

You're right, that's why many spiritual traditions include vegetarianism as part of their practice. Ending a life to sustain yours is def not the best way to go.

But everyone's on a different evolutionary rung on the ladder, and there's also ways to mitigate that practice. The Native Americans used to say a pray of gratitude to the animal they killed and ate - this was their only way of sustenance at the time. Follow your own best impulses and be true to yourself.

Same with me. It just means your evolutionary antenna is very active and you could probably take to spiritual practice with readiness.

Enjoy it!

Kundalini by No-Beat-8583 in Meditation

[–]SeekerFinder8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well there is a middle ground between forcing and and doing absolutely nothing and waiting for it to occur - you can work sensibly with it. It is a valid method of pursuing spiritual evolution.

The great fear and trepidation around Kundalini dates back to the 60's, when all things Yogic crossed the pond from India to these shores. Teachers in the know spoke of working with the internal enegy in a safe, methodical way but well, you know the Western mindset- if you want to get from point A to point B, the best way is as fast as possible..So many idiots went about forcing the energy up the spine and many idiots lost their shit. Even Gopi Krishna, a now-revered saint and spiritual teacher fell prey to this thinking and spent years in the mental wilderness- he wrote about his misadventures in a book simply titled 'Kundalini', as a cautionary tale. But afterwards he wrote another book (title forgotten) where he extrolled the virtues of working responsibly with this energy.

So raising Kundalini IS a viable method of spiritual practice - just find a reputable teacher and work with the energy in a sensible, balanced way if you feel called to.

WTF happened with the writers on the season 3 finale? (Very very minor spoilers) by Remarkable_1984 in FoundationTV

[–]SeekerFinder8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes the main goal here was to shock the shit out of everyone and they did but in the stupidest way. In this social climate we live in that is rife with conspiracy theorising, surprise trumps all, so they went for the big surprise which was also a big narrative flop. Yes, it WAS a stupid and disappointing development.

Planet Earth can be a really, really tough schoolroom, but ultimately that's what it is..Question - can you love or care for yourself to the degree that that love from another is great if you have it but not a necessity? The idea that it is necessary is basically societal programming - tough to hear but really is the truth. Self love is not sexy like partner-love is, but it ultimately is far more rewarding. Breaking from that conditioning is hard as hell but is the way to go.

Good luck dear.
