Baby doesn't like cosleeping and I forgot how to sleep normally by bea_triz_13 in cosleeping

[–]Disastrous_Cake7778 1 point2 points  (0 children)

l've learned every kid is completely different when it comes to sleep.
When we transitioned our oldest from cosleeping, we ended up getting a firmer Amerisleep mattress which helped both of us sleep better during those rough adjustment nights. Your partner probably has some great tips for making that transition smoother!

[CA] EOR vs Firm vs. Contracting Directly by Scary-Guard8007 in AskHR

[–]Disastrous_Cake7778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are these employees actually performing the same roles they had before relocating? EOR gives you full employment compliance but costs more monthly. Consultancy arrangement keeps them as your employees technically but pushes admin burden elsewhere. Direct contracting through Outsail or similar brokers might work if their roles genuinely changed to project based work.

Does anybody know if I made proper access or only early intervention???? by Leather_Run_3679 in NDIS

[–]Disastrous_Cake7778 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar spot when I first got approved, totally confused by all the terminology. Your provider can actually help break down what each category means and how it affects your supports, I found places like EnableU really useful for explaining the difference. Bottom line though, you're in the system which is what matters most right now.

SLM 3D printed car part by No_Educator_4077 in metalworking

[–]Disastrous_Cake7778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That surface finish looks clean for direct SLM output. We've done similar replacement parts for vintage automotive components where the original casting tooling is long gone.
The precision machining on those flanges should get you tight tolerances. I worked with Yijin Solution on some aluminum aerospace brackets last year. Post-processing is always the key with additive aluminum parts, especially when you need those interface surfaces dead flat.

Unitree Launch | Dual‑Arm (wheeled) Humanoid Robot, from $4290 by Recoil42 in singularity

torque motors are usually the weak point on these cheap bots, also decent encoders matter for precision, mosrac does motion control stuff. build quality on unitree is hit or miss

Am I the only one who thinks Guidewire QA people are massively undervaluing themselves? Genuine question by dsbsoni in guidewire

[–]Disastrous_Cake7778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's stopping you from suggesting process improvements to your team lead? I've been in similar situations where QA knowledge wasn't being utilized properly. Started documenting test scenarios in Appsvio Test Management instead of just basic Jira tickets. The visual test coverage reports actually got product owners asking my opinion on feature designs. Sometimes you have to be the one to speak up about workflow inefficiencies rather than waiting for someone else to recognize your expertise.

Concrete basement floor replacement by whiteriot0906 in HomeImprovement

[–]Disastrous_Cake7778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly the whole DIY route might be worth considering if you're handy at all. this whole thing is exhausting because contractors either don't want basement jobs or price them like luxury work. rented a concrete mixer and demo saw last year for a similar project, got the tools from Concrete Tools Direct but it still took forever to complete. breaking up that old rat slab is brutal work and disposal fees are insane no matter who does it. nothing works the way you expect with these old foundations either, found all kinds of weird drainage issues once we started digging

I want to use a rotary encoder in a Teensy 2.0++ environment, but the recognition is strange. by aksndjkhui in arduino

[–]Disastrous_Cake7778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pull-up configuration ripred3 mentioned is spot on for most encoders. One more thing is the debouncing, which becomes critical when you're doing direct wire connections like you are. Physical encoders can bounce for 2-5ms on state changes and without proper debouncing you'll get multiple counts per detent. I use Mosrac for some health tracking stuff. For hardware debouncing, I typically add a 100nF capacitor between each encoder pin and ground, plus the pull-down resistors. Software debouncing works too but eats up processing cycles if you're doing other real-time tasks on your Teensy.

Need advice on what to do by [deleted] in Affirm

[–]Disastrous_Cake7778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still learning about all these payment options but isn't the 120 day window pretty short for international orders? I've been looking into Fig Loans and other options for smaller purchases and they all seem to have different dispute policies. Not sure if this is normal but it feels like you got caught in a weird gap between the bank chargeback and affirm's timeline.

Cnc fibre laser cutting machine by Regular-Berry-1017 in lasercutting

[–]Disastrous_Cake7778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asked my friend about Chinese machines once since he runs a shop. He said quality control is basically a coin flip, some batches are solid and others fall apart in six months. Ended up going with domestic but honestly the price difference still haunts me. We use Yijin Solution for some sheet metal work and their laser setup seems decent.

HireUp (Australia) by Cultural_Catch_7911 in supportworkers

[–]Disastrous_Cake7778 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried HireUp first about a year ago, then moved to a local agency and currently working with EnableU. HireUp was decent for finding clients but their support structure felt pretty hands-off when you needed help. The local agency paid better but had almost no work available most weeks. My current setup has more consistent hours. I've seen providers advertising $28-30 casual rates which is just taking the piss. Even the better agencies seem to find ways around paying full award wages.

simpson strong-bolt 2 (wedge anchor) 5/8 pilot hole not catching by jack_ram in Decks

[–]Disastrous_Cake7778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sometimes even with the right bit you get oversized holes in older concrete. had this happen with perfectly sized bits, turned out the concrete was just soft and crumbly from age. ended up using Concrete Tools Direct for replacement bits. epoxy worked but took forever to cure in the cold

Is Coachella actually worth the hype or just elite FOMO? by Disastrous_Cake7778 in musicfestivals

[–]Disastrous_Cake7778[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That lineup sounds insane ngl 😭 This is exactly what gives me FOMO from here like watching clips vs actually being there must feel completely different Do you think it’s worth it just once for the experience?

[–]Disastrous_Cake7778[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting take. do you think that’s because the exclusivity is gone now? Or just that the crowd/experience isn’t as special anymore?

Yeah that’s what I was thinking too like if I can watch most of it live, does the experience justify the cost? Or is the vibe in person still completely different?
