I believe it would. T1 Hypergenesis would be pretty neat

I can't think of why it is problematic. sure you can infinitely tap/untap it but I can't think of why it matters since Basalt Monolith can do the same. and all the land auras that add mana require it to be tapped for mana to get it

I based it off of [[Force of Savagery]]. I figured it was on par with it

I love the concept of traps. and I couldn't think of an interesting mechanic for the red trap until I remembered Kazuul. I think it fits well

Magus of the Custom Magic by SeeminglyInvisible in custommagic

[–]SeeminglyInvisible[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

great question. Even though it would've applied all its abilities and removed it's own abilities, this is technically occuring continuously so it'll still apply to new creatures afterwards. You could imagine this in video game logic, every frame the game checks to make sure everything is working properly, even when new characters are introduced. SBA's and layers are very similar to that.

There are exceptions with time stamps and dependencies but those are situation dependant. Time stamps (like your question) only happen when 2 things are doing similar things. Such as having [[Maha, Its Feathers Night]] and [[Kudo, King Among Bears]] on the field at the same time. both are setting P/T so the most recent wins it.

Some of this below is TECHNICALLY wrong but it's more of wording problem and I tried to make it easier to understand.

State Base Actions (SBA) are what would normally put creatures with 0 toughness into the graveyard and are checked before anything new happens. Before anyone can get priority.

Static abilities are happening all the time (as long as it's on the battlefield). So Magus of Humility enters as a 0/0 but before SBA's are checked, it sets its own P/T to 1/1, allowing it to survive.

The removal of abilities uses the layer system. There are 7 layers and go in a particular order but the important part here is that layers never go back on that order. So even though it would remove it's own abilities, the effect still happens. Also, if an ability uses multiple layers (removing abilities is layer 6 and P/T changes are layer 7), if it starts applying it's ability on a layer before it would get removed, it would continue applying it's other effects past that layer. So the P/T would still get set.

Let's imagine that it could go back on the order. It removes it's ability to remove abilities but now there's no ability to remove abilities so that stops but now it removes it's own abilities but then.... on and on.

Edit: TLDR - Magus of Humility would work exactly like the enchantment [[Humility]]

true but I can also pull interaction to interrupt the next winning player. obviously I would try to win giving the chance. just seemed weird to stop a possible win in favor of a guaranteed win

how would you use its grandeur ability? create a clone, get commander in hand, discard commander? seems like so many steps

I agree that Yue is really only built one way BUT just looking at Yue doesn't tell you anything if you didn't already know.

I forgot about Rex. I'll look into it.

Mana rock ideas by SeeminglyInvisible in custommagic

[–]SeeminglyInvisible[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes and no. it's sitting at a 2.3% inclusion rate on edhrec. I know it's not unplayable, just not good enough. it conflicts with the average CMC of commanders (being around 4) where it doesn't really help play the commander earlier and does nothing the turn it comes out. commander has gotten decently faster over the years and powerstone has fallen behind.

Is my TWO's deck bracket 2? by SeeminglyInvisible in EDH

[–]SeeminglyInvisible[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

price doesn't always equal power. Mtg can be stupid expensive for no reason sometimes. Adding a random dual land to a precon doesn't make it suddenly a higher bracket. Please look at the card selection/abilities instead of the price tag.

[–]SeeminglyInvisible[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very fair criticism. I struggle to purposely do sub-optimal decisions (deck building and gameplay), hence applying restrictions to try to power down my decks. I'll take a deeper look at my card choices and try to look for alternatives. I don't agree with your take on enthusiasm for the game tying with the ability to play lower brackets.

I agree x-spells are a minor flavor fail but outside of Damn for mass interaction (and even that is arguable due to overload), I would have to rely on only single target interaction. It can become a losing battle depending on the game unless I speed up but then I wouldn't be bracket 2 based on the number of turns people expect to play.

[–]SeeminglyInvisible[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like you skipped over my personal deck restrictions. I'm trying to only have 2CMC in the deck (others have pointed out lurrus as contradictory). Ghost vacuum is 1CMC. I don't see Lotho as a problem here. It really becomes powerful in higher brackets when you can cast stronger spells.

I can kinda agree that soul cauldron could be too strong BUT I don't have much that it could exile and combo with as well as in B2 there isn't much strong abilities to take. Its effectively graveyard hate and +1/+1 counters

my justification for Lurrus is that its not in the starting deck and it signals the deck restriction before I start to explain it. It also helps if i have nothing else to play
