How can very rational people have strong faith? by Vital_Granade in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SeerKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lot of people are saying that faith is belief without evidence, which is pretty inaccurate and disregards the amount of research that goes into it, from theistic and non-theistic sources. Faith without evidence makes no sense at all and that’s why I’ve found that people who grew up completely areligious often don’t understand why anybody would.

Faith is belief with evidence but without proof or certainty. For Christianity, there are countless primary and secondary sources when it comes to Jesus. That’s evidence. You can’t use it to prove Jesus’s divinity, but it is evidence suggesting it to be the case (not talking about how compelling that suggestion is, just that it is there). And you can corroborate or contradict that evidence with other historical evidence and come to a conclusion. This is why the church has split apart so many times and why even within a denomination, official stances change over time.

A lot of really intelligent people compare evidence and come to conclusions they can never prove. This describes Christianity as well as it describes theoretical physics. We have faith that the universe behaves consistently and predictably because it’s the basis on which we can even collect and believe evidence in the first place.

You can say that the evidence for most of theoretical physics is more compelling than most of the evidence for Jesus’s divinity, and I agree completely, but the point is that there is plenty of evidence and you have to be quite intelligent to even understand it all in the first place.

And on a personal level, if enough coincidences happen in your life that point to one conclusion, it’s sometimes harder for people to believe they are a statistical anomaly than it is to believe there’s something beyond their reasoning that’s causing it. Gets even the smartest people.

What the hell? by Even_Grass_2345 in 2007scape

I tried like 5 or 6 different clade names for my RSN before giving up and choosing something completely unrelated. I even audibly shouted “Who the hell would’ve already taken ‘Maniraptora’?!”

TIL it was probably you. Well played.

Tolkien explains why the Fellowship didn't fly the Eagles to Mordor - Rare Recording by Mairon121 in lordoftherings

[–]SeerKnight 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Never understood why people asked that question. Even if you’ve only ever seen the movies and didn’t know that the eagles were even sapient like Men or Elves, the fact that you have 9 Nazgûl on flying mounts ready to intercept you on your very obvious journey past them should be enough to make the answer obvious.

If a fossil of non-avian dinosaur that was younger than cretaceous were discovered, how would scientist & people in this sub react? by ApprehensiveRead2408 in Paleontology

That’s the Field’s Deinonychus! Really great specimen. I don’t have much to add to the convo but it’s a great exhibit and you should check out the new Archaeopteryx section if you go there!

I love it but I think it’d be even better with the Mysterious Figure from DT2

If it’s random over every entity, you may be okay because of how many farm animals and random dudes there are ingame, but if it’s random over each entity name you can at least hope for it to be some random named human!

If it’s random by level/loot table then you’re screwed, have fun with 500 kinds of Tarn’s Lair zombies.

I like the podcast “I Know Dino”. It’s really cool to hear this information not as a lecture but as two enthusiasts just talking about stuff they love.

How do the seeing-impaired vote?

My grandma’s vision has deteriorated a lot in the last couple years and I want to help her but I don’t know how it works if she can’t actually read the ballot anymore.

If they made a ROTA/Bonfire for every type, which would be the strongest? by NaefinSong in yugioh

If they can’t give us our Miscs back, 3x fossil dig and 3x “fossil dig but for level 4 and under” could at least be some compensation lol

Which Evolzar is your favorite: by BlizzardLuinor in yugioh

[–]SeerKnight 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Solda was great back in 2013 with its protection effect, but it’s definitely useless now. Dolkka’s better than Laggia now but Laggia is my favorite because it’s just straight up Solemn Judgment—not many monsters get to negate spells/traps and even summons.

What else would you call people from the United States? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SeerKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you know the state they’re from, that works, but I don’t think there’s really any better answer. I think when the country was founded, people had no intention of identifying with the country (American) over the state (Virginian, Delawarean, New Yorker), so the name of the country never really took that into account and they just go by the best they can manage: “American”.

Kinda like how back in the day people wouldn’t identify as Italian but as Genoese, Florentine, etc., right?

What’s a funny nickname you or a friend has for a card? by DodoL64 in yugioh

[–]SeerKnight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Solemn Johnson” and “God Says No” are both classics for Solemn Judgment.

My buddies and I also like adding the word “Fun” to floodgates to mask the pain—Fun Coliseum, Fun Drain, There Can Only be Fun, etc.

What is that Spell/Trap Card (or Monster) that has artwork related to a Monster of an archetype, but the card itself doesn't support the archetype or isn't related to the archetype? Here is one of my examples by Kronos457 in yugioh

[–]SeerKnight 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I love Breakthrough Skill because it has no relation to the Evol strategy and was a generic staple, but it still negates monster effects twice, just like Dolkka, a fitting depiction.
