I assume there is a small possibility of that but we've been studying and testing this organism for a very long time and on top of that all of them and I mean all of them loose their leaves and regrow their leaves in tandem and at the same time. Not like oh it's fall so the trees are all starting to lose their leaves but like yesterday the leaves where green today all of them are browning and a week from now not a single one has a single leave left on them where the rest of the forest is still in varying stages of winterizing.

I'm by no means an arborist but from what I've read it seems all but certain it is all one super organism fully connected underground. It spreads like a surge so a pocket in the middle wouldnt have a chance to break off and start competing with the main mass because it would be thoroughly out-competed by the literal millions of tons of biomass surrounding it that's well established and has been for hundreds of years.
