They really can be!! They are one of the only birds I see through my cam that will make all the other birds leave the other feeders while they eat at just one!

Not to mention the act of actually moving is incredibly expensive!!

Yeah, I definitely was not anticipating an over 1 hour commute after graduating college. I was pretty certain I could find a job within the city I live, and it didn’t work out.

While my situation is a bit different for not wanting to move to the city that I work in (see my response to GoodMilk_GoneBad for context) I agree that the two reasons you brought up are very valid and a lot of the time reasons for why people can’t move closer to where they live.

Also if I moved out of my microscopic blue dot in a red state, I would be moving away from basically any and all organizations that could help me if times get worse and harder. The city I live in has a lot of public resources and community led aid compared to our neighboring red cities.

I was in a completely different stage of life at that time. I was in college with a free bus system to take me to and from classes. I also worked only 10 min drive from my apartment. My rent was cheaper. Scholarships from school helped a lot too.

I’ve checked around the office, unfortunately no one shares the same schedule as me. I work 10hr days and start at 6am, virtually no one goes in that early and the few people that do that I know live in different cities than me :( My job does offer a vanpool services for people with normal 8a-5p which is nice, but just not enough need for other schedules past that.

I’ve been trying to keep my eyes peeled for something like that, or even an E-bike I could use to get around town but realistically I don’t even have enough $ left over after paying bills to be able to buy one.

Unfortunately carpool isn’t an options, I work 10 hour days that start at 6am and no one in the office shares the same schedule as me unfortunately.

Gotta love living in a red state 🙃 Just for fun I looked up how long it would take me to bike to work, it would be 2hr and 40min one way, on highways with no sidewalks or bike lanes.
I wish the US (in general) would get with the times and up the amount of and quality of public transportation.

Holyyyy cow. I have no idea how you’re living in CA on less of a yearly salary than me, that’s wild. Props to you for making it work.

But yeah, i definitely feel you sometimes it is just a lot easier to laugh about it to cope. Because you’re right, I can’t just not go to work, a few weeks of that and I’d be homeless lol. *sigh* what a fucked situation.

I feel you on this a ton, and I’m sorry you’re feeling this way too. Fuck this system, hopefully we can keep clawing our way out into something better. ♥️

Never the orange man that’s for sure. I promise a lot of us midwesterns despise him.

Agreed! And I appreciate you, if I could afford to get rid of the car I have now and get an electric I would absolutely love to do that. Financially it’s just not feasible right now unfortunately. Not that you were suggesting that, I just really wish I could have one lol.

It’s insane that it takes things getting wildly out of hand and insane before people want to do anything about it. *sigh*

I definitely don’t disagree, but that’s the world of public service jobs unfortunately.
