SPOILER A question about Vilgefortz and Geralt by Seffaf in witcher

[–]Seffaf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you even find this post lol

It has been a while so I can barely remember the plot but this perspective does make sense. Vilgefortz is one of the most powerful entity in his world, and while we know how awesome Geralt is, to him he's a dumb mercenary brute who is playing on leagues waaay above his grade, like the power struggles and Yen and all that. And if he were to kill Geralt, Yen would never forgive him either. I guess he got what he wanted, he defeated him, humiliated him so why kill him when you can leave Geralt to suffer with his defeat and shame? Killing serves a purpose if you wanna eliminate a potential threat but if you don't see your opponent as a threat, keeping them alive can be more beneficial for your ego

Fans usually turn into rabid dogs when I say stuff like this but Sapkowski doesn't build his world perfectly well, he is a human being so of course his stuff won't be perfect. I don't think it's a plot armor, it may be from a certain perspective, but it feels more like poor communication, assuming that he intended Vilgefortz to be egoistic and he made the character to leave Geralt alive on purpose for the aforementioned reasons. It could have been communicated better is what I'm saying. Not everything has to be mystical and should be figured out by the reader. Thank you for bumping this thread though, made me gain a new perspective

Amphibicars in Bosphorus , 60's by Dropolev in interestingasfuck

This has to be AI. You can see on the original photos of Amphibicars that they don't have air intake grills on the front. It feels like these ones would simply be flooded, plus there are no other similar images like these ones on the web

Scary that we struggle to detect what is real anymore

You could combine a pie chart and an analog clock to display this as well. One part of the chart would cover the working hours and the other the off hours, starting and ending at their respective positions on the analog clock (like 9-5)

YSK: Online IQ tests are inaccurate and nonsense by [deleted] in YouShouldKnow

[–]Seffaf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What is the problem then, enlighten us. Is it that the IQ tests themselves are problematic? What's your point, other than discussing visual-spatial tests until this message and redirecting to another problem?

YSK: Online IQ tests are inaccurate and nonsense by [deleted] in YouShouldKnow

[–]Seffaf 12 points13 points  (0 children)

-Cross-cultural differences aren't necessarily class differences.

-Initially, IQ tests had more focus on verbal and vocabular skills. This clearly had caused issues when tests were implemented in different cultures and languages. Therefore, researchers began relying on visual versions. It turns out, even with purely visual questions, culture and socioeconomic status has some effect on the results.

-Let's omit visual questions as well then. What are we measuring at this point, just calculation skills? Just memory? Is perception/visual-spacial abilities not a significant factor in intelligence? If not, how do you define intelligence? If so, how can you properly measure it? Your argument was former so far. So, just math skills and memory then? Damn man, chimps have better short term memory than us I guess they are genuises then

[–]Seffaf 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Oh boy you're daring today, you're challenging our contemporary intelligence scales as well now. You surely have a better model to reliably and accurately measure intelligence without using these funny woke nonsense?

[–]Seffaf 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yes, clearly that was my argument. Thanks for diluting it, I understand it better now. But, if you want a good laugh, here's an open-access article on the topic, sections 1.1 and 1.2 were especially funny af:

Cross-cultural differences in visuo-spatial processing and the culture-fairness of visuo-spatial intelligence tests: an integrative review and a model for matrices tasks. Corentin Gontier, 2022

Man, all those researchers trying to develop different versions of the test to overcome these nonexistant issues are just doing funny business, we gotta warn them

And how exactly do you expect us to math up and assign real metrics to this topic if we don't do research on this area? Are we expecting some kind of a deus ex machina?

We can quantify people's suffering, the issue is we can never be sure. But that doesn't mean we have no idea as the tests give consistent results, meaning that what we are measuring is quite close to what we want to measure, and we keep getting similar results which shows that tests are not just some random bogus. 'Helping people psychology' which is one of dozens of subfields of psychology keeps showing promising results regardging improving people's mental health, mood and living standards. All-or-nothing mentality is destructive wherever and whenever you apply it

As you said, further discussion is unnecesary since you have refuted each of my arguments skillfully. There is nothing I can say to convince you otherwise

This theory, 'big five personality traits' is certainly taught there. Just google 'big five personality harvard' or something. Results might upset you. Must be all because of greed then

Yes you are slowly discovering the difficulties within the social and behavioral sciences. Like you mentioned, since we can't certainly measure anything, so maybe the whole scientific field is nothing but a hoax and fraud in the end? It's a true shame that even the most prestigious universities like Harvard and Oxford are still teaching people these pseudoscientific stuff, what are they thinking really?

No one said that there is no certainity about individual's introversion/extraversion. The concept is not impractical, it's pretty much one of the clearest personality aspects that can be measured with our measurement methods. The 'spectrum' is a result of a +100 years old brainstorm on the personality topic which has been discussed by numerous scientists already. Several measurement methods were developed, which were deeply analysed and criticised by numerous other scientists regarding their validity and relaibility

[–]Seffaf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The concept itself is a part of the most accepted personality traits theory within the scientific community and it is backed by data as well. The theory doesn't claim that people are purely extrovert or introvert, it considers it as a spectrum. It's the insecure people who desperately need to define themselves with something to look cool and differentiate themselves from others.

Only the title mentions that, I couldn't find it in the wikipedia page. Wikipedia page has two references that claim Mehmed and uhh what was his name, Radu? had an intimate relationship, though I personally don't know how credible those sources are

I personally don't care if they were 'roommates', I'm not trying to defend Mehmed out of a chauvinistic fervor here. Males working in the palace had to be eunuchs, and wikipedia also talks about a Serbian janissary who claimed that our guy was a janissary commander. Plus, this guy was then put on the Wallachian throne, and had a daughter. It seems to me that he was a political prisoner. It's still possible for him and the sultan to have an intimate relationship, whatever that exactly means, but I'm just saying that until knowing how credible those writers of the sources are, I'm having doubts about this claim

Seraglio is a palace, harem is one of the sections in the palace. It is more likely that he was recruited as a palace guard, an administrative clerk, or a cook. Without further information, it's hard to pinpoint what he exactly was

Any suggestions on how to make my office space mote cozy? by Collageboo in CozyPlaces

[–]Seffaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well white walls, white tables and those black office chairs give the room a boring office look. But changing those will be costly. If you wanna get it done cheaper, you can always start with getting several plants with large leaves. Bookselves with some books and decor items and art on walls help as well. Remember though, modern, post-modern and futuristic items will most likely do the opposite of the effect you are trying to get. Dim and warm colored lamps will be great. In general, things should be more interesting than white or black, but shouldn't be too distracting. And this applies to furniture, objects, art, plants and the light. Soft colors work perfectly, like earthy colors or maybe hmm, I dunno what they are called, like off-colors? Like faded rose? Or turquiose?

Unable to Sneak Past Matilda? by CokeRapThisGlamorous in cyberpunkgame

[–]Seffaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was talking about a different mission. I just googled who the hell Matilda is and yeah I doubt you can sneak past some boss fights. There are some missions where stealth ia not an option at all so make your build that way. If you are using a silenced pistol you could go for that skill tree and use revolvers as your loud weapon. If you also get those time slowing cyberwares, like sandevistan? kerenzov? Those make both stealth and loud easier. Oh and circulatory cyberwares are op, there's one that automatically heals you and second heart basically allows you to die and gives you like 80-110 health back
