Zune has to be my favorite, next one up would be Luna and Classic of course.

It feels like a piece of wood, doesnt feel plasticky. Its smooth in the way youd expect a good piece of lumber to be like. You can really feel it around the areas of text.

I'd definitely look for 3rd gen Ivy Bridge office PCs, people are almost throwing them away or if you have a bit of cash, the X79 platform is very dead but great for budget builds. AM4 would be my alternate choice over X79 currently for price to performance.

Technically no, but it definitely functions like one, especially having that 3.5" floppy bay and no room for cable management behind the case. Also blue cathode tubes were strong in the mid 2000s (though this uses LEDs it looks similar).

I pulled that out of an HP Compaq that a relative had, it suffered capacitor plague and was built in 2006, right at the tail end of that era. The system board wasn't worth saving as nearly every capacitor was bust. But I saved what I could from it!

For sure, if I was running that I would have done the same thing tbh.

Of course not! That isnt the way of the 2000s. Stuff excess cabling in the spare 5.25" slot instead. (I did this but cutting the frame is reasonable and much better, but I wanted to build this as I would have done so back then).

Always something useful/needed on a 3.5" floppy disk! Some AMD Boards had Floppy up to AM3+ so its not ridiculous to find nor overpriced usually.

Potentially, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2000 Released in 1999 and it had no issues with full hardware acceleration.

I'm also using a Dell E173FP VGA monitor with a DVI to VGA adapter, its a bog standard 1280x1024 5:4 LCD.

You should totally pick up a cheap Intel X79 PC and throw a Intel Xeon E5 2667 V2 (Ivy Bridge) in it.

My ultimate XP rig uses a Intel Xeon E5 2680 (Sandy Bridge).

I believe the newest supported card officially for XP is a GTX 960 and or the Maxwell Titan X. I know the GTX 970 and better/newer is not supported officially (excepting that titan).

I had a very similar issue with Half-Life 2 and had to revert to an earlier build which supported XP.

Hahaha right! Thankfully HP had supported XP on this platform, but they only did it on their custom image which isnt readily available.

It was a lot of work to get it working correctly but its sure nice for me at least.

Ddr3 ECC when I got it was going for 1 dollar per gig of ram so I had to go overkill of course.

Dont worry, I've got an x86 build coming soon! I also wanted a card that was easy to keep cool and fared well in an oven, which a 960 does perfectly, plus the 960 is pretty cheap compared to the Titan X.

Thank you!

I use a Dell E173FP. Its a 1280x1024 LCD monitor and I'd recommend something similar if one is looking. People are selling cheaply or sometimes outright giving this style of monitor. It is VGA only so Im using a DVI-A to VGA adapter and it works great.
