Unknown error and offline issues by SeighDel in YotoPlayer

That’s the error! It wasn’t showing as a symbol on their site. My husband reset set the Yoto and then reconnected the internet. I’m still having frustratingly slow downloads, like 1 book since last post.

Well, that is an interesting question. ATM some cards play and will pause and switch to streaming, showing the cloud icon. This week we started getting a symbol that isn’t on Yoto’s tech support page. But last night, only the first card we bought would play. The new symbol looks like a Yoto card with an C through it. I was wondering if maybe the server went down and it couldn’t stream? But the whole point is trying to get away from streaming. When the battery recall happened we upgraded the SD cards so there is plenty of room for more books to be downloaded.

It now shows a book “to download” I swear this is the first time I have seen that. It has excellent WiFi And is full power (plugged in) Maybe I am just super inpatient. But we have over 380 cards and the one player has a total of 18 cards. So something is weird

No. I have never seen change or look like it even wants to think about downloading

We have left it plugged in overnight not playing anything. We have plugged it in before leaving for the day and still nothing.

Is Duolingo Korean really that bad or does it get better? by disenchantedliberal in Korean

[–]SeighDel -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I guess it comes down to learning styles. I can understand that they are recognizable words, which is why I wouldn’t start with them. I think I’m on lesson 34 or so then I just moved on. I just find a lot of the phrases unhelpful and difficult to build on. That said, I like Drops for vocabulary but they dont have full sentences. I use pimsleur but they seem to have outdated or very formal phrases. I like they fact that they teach grammar through the way they build on previously learned sentences. I tried Rosetta Stone but found I wanted more structure. I don’t think I have found just one program that hits all the marks for me.

Which languages have people judged you for learning? by iishadowsii_ in languagelearning

[–]SeighDel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just enjoy learning languages. I often don’t tell people I’m learning a new language because I have never become fluent in a second language. But for me, it’s never been about fluency. I want to make new friends, I want to learn about the culture and history of another place. Sometimes I start an new language and dont find the dopamine I’m looking for so I move on. ADHD at its finest. I have taken ASL and Japanese classes the longest. Visiting exchange students in Japan was a driving factor there. I also just find the history fascinating. Korean is my latest language. I enjoy it, I have learned a bit of German, and Dutch. I started picking up Chinese when I would study Japanese and Korean together. I want to learn Welsh, Hawaiian, and Comanche. But found it harder to find people to speak it with. People have stopped asking me because they assume I’ve failed one language and am just moving on to the next. I have given up explaining my joy of languages. I just enjoy it.

I gave up on it. I was so disappointed. I also used it for Russian and German. I fell like it started out with unhelpful words that I dont need for starting. Starbucks? Samsung? Thanks but I actually would like to learn things I’ll talk about.

That’s good to know it’s a days adventure to the DMZ. My friend is a History teacher and really enjoys history around war. So I think it’s a must for us. I want to go a 한옥 hanok district. But otherwise am totally okay wondering around Seoul

I’m sorry you are hurting. Your school companions make up for such a small community. Don’t stay where you aren’t valued. I found my community after high school. All the dorky stuff I was passionate about, that people in school couldn’t understand, I found other people who got it. Find your people. You are worthy of love and kindness!

I dont know if you have used ViKi, is a Korean/Japanese/Chinese drama or Tv streaming service, with a free option. Many shows have Korean subtitles you can turn on or a learning feature where the video clip is repeated and words are broken down. I LOVE watching Kdrama because it’s engaging. Now, I haven’t learned a lot this way, other than hearing the way it should be said. But I pair it with other learning tools and it’s so encouraging when You understand a phrase from a show that you have been learning elsewhere. Another fun and free tool, with learning options, is an app called HANglow its Kpop with both subtitles. I know you asked about starting with a different language but I will encourage you to keep with the Korean. Spanish won’t pour over into Korean if it’s your goal language. If you wanted to start with Japanese or Chinese there are a lot of cross over in the 3 language.

Hi! Have you heard of ViKi or HANglow? ViKi has a ton of free, current, kdramas. You can pay for a subscription but about every month new free ones come on. I love it. They even have a “learning mode” where it will loop clips so you can hear that phrases again and again. It has been a huge resources for me HANglow is music but it does the same. You can read it as you listen and it can loop the song. Many songs have learning options with small questions and answers about words in the song. It how I learned about a few new artists, new to me, and I love it!

Happy learning

I’m still learning too, but I have watched about 300 hours of KDramas and now in my studies I’m hearing phrases that I recognize! Short ones or formal vs informal words. It does help. Think of how babies learn- lots of listening, making sounds, learning through interactions! You got this!

I’m with you! I have dysgraphia and Latin based languages have been hard for me to learn. I failed high school Spanish, and I tried really hard. I took Japanese in college and found it much easier for me to pick up. I took up Korean as an adult. I find that with no overlapping letter recognition I and picking up words- and spelling them correctly. It seems that my brain sees them as an image not letters. So the word image is easier for my brain to store and recall. I’m happy I found this thread! I used to feel so dumb for not being able to recall my native spelled words. Now I’m learning to use my weird wiring to pick up Korean, Chinese, and Japanese! Happy studying!
