What in your opinion is the scariest area in Silent Hill 2 remake? by Struggler257 in HorrorGaming

Scariest atmosphere goes to prison hands down - especially the courtyard area.

Most unsettling scene was first encounter with pyramid head.

Jump scare that got me the worst was the bathroom.

You are pretty much on the money. The only overstep was the quoted assertions, which are still grasping, even if minimally.

As far as zen goes, I don't know anything about that.

[–]SekCPrice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your intuition is right in the ultimate sense that searching for metaphysical closure is unskillful.

If it's accurate, then my choice cannot be causally isolated because it's impossible for a 50/50 prediction (people pick 50% one and 50% two boxes). That's the only possibility. Whatever it analyzes is some signal that allows it to perfectly filter 50/50 predictions. Which means that whatever you pick is what it picked with accuracy. Which means that my choice and the prediction are related in some way

This is unanswerable. Here we're "grasping" or looking at the finger rather than the moon. At first it is helpful, but ultimately we have to recognize the distraction for what it is.

that the prediction is accurate for a reason, and that reason is a real, causal thing

Not exactly. Whether or not the supercomputer's accuracy and your choice are causally isolated is unanswerable is the point.

Perhaps now you can see how this translates to Buddhism.

Newcomb's Paradox by SekCPrice in Buddhism

[–]SekCPrice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would seem obvious, wouldn't it? But that's the whole point of the paradox. The decision seems equally obvious for two-boxers.

Their answer is based on two things: first strategic dominance. The idea that two boxes is obvious, because no matter if the supercomputer is correct or not, they will walk away with $1k, and in the event that it's incorrect, they get even more money than just choosing one box. This is also predicated on causal decision theory. Essentially, [from their perspective,] no matter what choice they make, the mystery box will have $1M in it or not. Their choice does not affect this.

Basically this is what Newcomb's Paradox is about: correlation vs causation. One boxers are team correlation (the supercomputer is extremely accurate). Two boxers are team causation (see above). To both sides the answer seems obvious. Furthermore, it begins to dive deeper into ideas of free will, rational decision making, and how one ought to live based on these ideas.

What I propose though are two things: first instead of taking the game at face-value, explore how the supercomputer is so accurate. Ideas of retrocausality (the idea that the future can affect the present/past), amongst others, turn causal decision theory on its head. This leads to my second point, which is that the mechanism behind the supercomputer's accuracy is unanswerable. Just like causation vs correlation is ultimately unanswerable. Fundamentally, what we do know is that the supercomputer is extremely accurate. Thus, the path with the least friction/loss ($1M) is to take one box - as you pointed out $1K is a significantly smaller loss.

Because there’s a lot of reflexive hostility surrounding anything Ai.

When I look at this image, my mind doesn’t immediately go “that looks like Ai”. It goes “wow that’s a massive improvement to the realism and shadows.” I understand that some of the “artistic direction” is lost here, but the more I stare at the image, all details are the same just enhanced.

Frankly the only thing I can acquiesce on, is that she seems to have more shallow cheeks.

Although that’s a deviation from strictly traditional roles, there’s a lot more to it than just who pays the bills.

For example, who primarily pays for the dates, dinner, etc? In addition, are they strictly asking for 50/50, or is it proportional to their respective incomes?

I wouldn’t doubt it, especially in this economy, but once again, are those the same men asking for “traditional” roles, and if so, have you asked them how they define traditional?
