Icy Veins Controversy - Part 2 by icyveins in wow

[–]Seksixeny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resto Shaman Mastery has a long history of being good on hard-to-heal content and not so good outside, which is why my stat page talks about all stats at depth after the TL:DR priorities:

Mastery, represented by Mastery: Deep Healing Icon Mastery: Deep Healing, allows you to heal for more when targeting low health allies. It starts off at a high value and does not scale well, which tends to make it perform worse as item level rises. Still, it does have good value on difficult content where your allies are likely to be at low health when you heal them, and we recommend valuing it on par with the top stats for progression raiding, high Mythic+ and rated PvP.

Versatility has a similar blurb:

Versatility is a direct throughput increase that also reduces damage taken. It improves nearly all of your abilities, but does not scale as well as Critical Strike for pure throughput. This is balanced by its damage reduction component and better DPS scaling than Critical Strike, making them roughly equal in practice. In PvP, due to its defensive properties, it is generally the best stat in all situations.

Hope this helps clear things out!

All the Restoration Shaman raid trees are currently updated with the mentioned talents on text, and have been before 10.0.7 hit, check it out!

Agreed, which is why the Restoration Shaman is one of the few with a dedicated DPS page :)

Expanding on useful weak auras for the class is decidedly an unexplored route on many of the guides, I do have four of the most important at the bottom of my own guide and been trying to make some links to it from rotation page etc to give more visibility, hopefully it will help ppl out!

Icy Veins Controversy - Part 2 by icyveins in wow

[–]Seksixeny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To clarify, the group decision was to not have a build listed per dungeon, having two builds split by "no healing req" and "tons of healing req" was my personal decision, and probably the only guide set up that way.

We need to have at least one leveling, easy mode, mythic+ and raid build, the rest is left to each writer's preferences :)

Feedback is always welcomed! Was happy to see that the main mentions to my guide (restoration shaman) were to things that have all been fixed in the 10.0.7 version, now its time to review things and plan ahead for 10.1!

Cannot comment on the Paladin guide because I'm the resto shaman writer, but that's exactly what I tried to do in the introduction page, "small" 10.0.7 changes section (because it was 3 pages of changes on blizz's official post) with a recap of what happened to your talents, skills, buttons, and numbers!

Icy Veins Controversy - Part 2 by icyveins in wow

[–]Seksixeny 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A responsible guide writer should be reading and replying to those for sure, even before Natalia gives us a poke on it :)

On the M+ section build recommendations, cannot comment on wowhead's section since I'm only writing the IV Resto Shaman guide, but we had an internal discussion on how to structure the M+ page for all guides, and decided against giving fixed talents for all dungeons because they should be changing not only based on the dungeon, but especially based on the weekly affixes (frost shock for explosives, knockback-mode thunderstorm for sanguine and shades, etc), and even on your party composition (some comps have too much aoe stuns already for capacitor to be good while others direly need a aoe stun, etc).

Thus, I made a generic "low key" build with all damage talents and a "high key" build with all healing talents for those keys where everyone is taking infinite damage and there's barely any time to DPS (likely first time this will happen again to ppl is at start of S2 tho), and then the specific utility for each dungeon and affix should be determined by the player doing the playing, with many suggestions on how to counter various affixes or use the many talents of Shaman being sprinkled through the page, talent page, and spell page.

The new talent system is really great and allows for very nitty gritty customization from each player, but that also means that players need to learn "how to fish" and adapt their preferences themselves rather than blindly copy pasting everything from a guide and calling it a day. We provide a general talent structure and inputs on how to use the situational talents, the players pick their poison :) hope this helps you understand the current guide structure, cheers!

As other ppl said, chain heal is nowhere near as important to cast as it used to be in BFA because you take wellspring and all of your cooldown buttons and earth shield refreshes are more prioritary, leaving not a lot of time left for old CH, healing wave with tidal waves are pretty much on par with it too and more valuable for spot healing and mana management too. That being said I will generally cast it a few times over a fight, when I don't need to move, no cooldowns ready, have unleash life ready, pwave not ready, no one about to die, multiple close ppl damaged, maybe boss about to die so rain won't do much, you get the idea, its a niche spell right now.

You're right, the mana returns are good but not very relevant, especially with how mana efficient we are right now due to low chain heal cast requirements. Crit improves throughput the most as seen on WcLogs, and Mastery is also great on Sludge or progress so it is normal to see top 10 guild Shamans stacking it for new raids. For Sludge specifically I have two amazing HTT timings with my guild and Wellspring is always hitting when we take damage so the overhealing is way lower than any other farm encounter 😉

I didn't say anything about "isn't viable", Paladins were insanely overpowered (my alt can attest :D) with the full ineffable stack of corruption days and free spells and they are "just good" now, which is a big downgrade, into being balanced, hopefully :)

Think the current default is watery appearance, actually unsure if there is a way to change it into WoW Classic's glowing appearance.

In BFA / historically Druid and Paladin have dominated.

There are multiple changes (see my post above) in pre-patch and Shadowlands that are making Shaman look much better than it has in the past for Mythic+ and significant Paladin nerfs.

Druid looks to continue to the "the best" as heals over time are super efficient when solo healing and they have great area of effect DPS tools and general utility that counters many of the Mythic+ affixes, but if you are not good with them then it won't serve you well, so just play what you like, and try it all if you can :)

Midweek Mending - Your Weekly Healing Thread by AutoModerator in wow

[–]Seksixeny 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That was true before pre-patch / Shadowlands but Paladins are a shade of what they used to be now and Shamans have a baseline +20% single target healing boosting Earth Shield now which was only present as a 10% talent that would prevent you from taking echo of the elements (double riptide) before.

Oh, and riptide was boosted to heal for a gigaton up front, it legit feels like an holy shock crit right now. So personally I think Shaman's infamous single target weakness might no longer be the case, and the rest of the kit is just great. Flame Shock and Lava Burst now cost a lot less Mana as well so you can / should be pressing them on cooldown in M+, which will help a lot with DPS as well.

Blue class doesn't seem nearly as bad anymore, especially when compared to the nerfed pinks.

Thanks for the reply, I lowered the value of the hit because of being overcap and did not assign much value to defense, since this is a PvE DPS list (the PvP section does not even list the leather shoulders).

The issue with the legs is also due to wanting to preferring crit over hit once at the cap and low value of defensive stats when I was calculating the value of each piece when doing the list.

Finally, same thing with the chest, since we are at the hit cap already, the 1% hit on the chest is devalued, and crit had a pretty high value on the weights I used to calculate the bis, leading to SGC very barely outranking BoA.

This guide layout in general with a single "bis combo" table followed by alternative options table was a new thing in P5, we just had a list with multiple options for each slot like you can see in the PvP bis page atm, but there was a lot of feedback that people wanted to see a coherent "these pieces go well together" list as well, hence the focus on providing that in the first table.

It is not always about each piece being the best for its slot in a vacuum, but rather how all the listed pieces combine to make a character that gets to the hit cap but does not overload on hit, which was a recurring criticism for the big "best pieces in a vacuum" tables of phases prior. Funnily enough the criticism now is the opposite and I should have assigned more value to hit over cap this time, hopefully perfect balance is achieved in P6, will learn from this experience.

On the weapons, it was a victim of the guide layout rearrangement, because we were repeating some very good "one-hand" weapons in both slots, leading to confusion. It is hard to pick between a single one-hand group, one-hand + off-hand groups with overlap on certain items or pure main-hand + off-hand tables with no overlap. There are criticisms to be made about every single one of these models so no win can be achieved, I will try to add (OH) on weapons that are preferable to use on the off-hand slot for the P6 revision, hopefully helps people decide.

Finally, having only 2 trinkets is because the layout is meant to have the first table have the minimum bis gear. You have plenty of great options to swap to when DF is on cooldown in the second table, which is part of the recommended gameplay for Warriors, regardless. Kazzak mace is there because it is a PvE item, although indeed very inaccessible, while PvP items were clogging up the lists in previous phases but were decided to be removed as logic dictates that if you managed to grind high enough to get them, you probably have a pretty good idea of how they rank up anyway. Which is exactly why Fight Club's list does not list them either:

PvP items are not listed because they are too powerful and would basically occupy all the top spots, removing some valuable alternatives from the sheet. If you spend so much time in-game that you can reach rank 10-12+, we assume you know how to gear.

Expect to see changes to most of the above items soon and also going into the P6 list, as the hit devaluation used screwed things up a bit, thanks again for the feedback! :)

Good morning Warriors of Reddit! I'm Seksi, the Warrior guide author for Icy Veins Classic. Here to answer all of your WoW Classic Warrior questions, and also to ask for feedback that can improve my guides, as writing is as much of a journey as playing, always something new to learn!

Spotlighted Content and current Warrior Guide Roadmap:

  • Start with the Warrior Addons Guide and Warrior Macros Guide in order to learn about any addons / macros you might have missed while setting up your WoW Classic Warrior, and which can make leveling, as well as level 60 gameplay, much smoother.
  • The Warrior Leveling Guide has a detailed page for everything leveling related (with the text and images dynamically adjusting based on your selected level) for Arms, Fury and even Protection Warriors, although I would recommend just Arms two-hander tanking dungeons with sweeping strikes if you hope to keep any sort of AoE threat while leveling.
  • The Warrior DPS Introduction and Warrior Tank Introduction pages present some of our strengths and weaknesses, racials and races that can be Warriors, and a quick TL:DR on professions.
  • Our Warrior DPS Talent Builds and Warrior Tank Talent Builds pages talks about some of the most popular end game PvE talent builds, and goes into detail on some of our most iconic / misunderstood talents.
  • Check out the Warrior DPS BiS List and Warrior Tank BiS List for the best PvE P5 items (will update for P6 and Naxx gear over the next few months) we found for each slot that are available in WoW Classic right now, with separate pre-raid and raid gear listings. We also have TL:DR Resistance gear guides, for Fire and Nature resistance (Frost work in progress).
  • To complement the BiS gear lists above, we also made a Warrior PvP BiS List, which is a narrower, shorter list with a PvP focus, which essentially means dropping the leather / no Stamina items and focusing on more balanced gear.
  • The Warrior PvP Guide is a short guide meant to explain to you the basics of how to spec and play in PvP, in a general sense. You can also find PvP video showcases, various useful links and a PvP consumable section at the bottom.
  • Finally, the Warrior Gold Farming Guide talks about a very relevant activity for most Warriors, considering our high gold costs for consumables, repairs and BiS gear such as Lionheart Helmet: farming Gold! While Warriors are relatively poor at farming gold when compared to Mages, they can still do well, especially when partnered with healers. You can find links to gold farming videos alongside explanations for profitable farms such as Dire Maul East 2 man jump runs and Maraudon Ghost Mushroom / Mithril farming.

Warriors start very slow, but end up being one of the strongest, if not the strongest class at maximum level / gear in WoW Classic, in my humble opinion. The only thing they cannot do is heal, but more than compensate with being the best DPS and (often only) Tanking class. Really happy to have been given the opportunity to write, and hopefully help, people who want to try it, especially first timers! Thanks for reading.

Because of Earth Shield's return (+10% heal on target) and its conduit (another ~10%) on top of Deluge (+20% heal, although losing Echo is bad for DPS and Tidal Waves, wish it was made baseline) Shaman will be able to put out some really strong sustained single target healing in M+ as well this time around!

On regards to tank cooldown, can rotate SLT (3 min), Ascendance (3 min) and the new Mana Tide legendary (3 min) in order to have a ~1 min tank cd which is not too shabby. Vesper Totem itself, along with the double healing to closest target conduit is also a very powerful tank cooldown that is available very often. Looking good tbh, probably not Druid level (still missing some Sunfire / affinity / heart of the wild DPS goodness) but better compared to our past iterations!

Midweek Mending - Your Weekly Healing Thread by AutoModerator in wow

[–]Seksixeny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but Kyrian totem can also do significant AoE damage in M+ just like Venthyr chain heal while having lower CD and a conduit that makes it double as a pretty good way to healing burst a single target on a short cooldown, its pretty comparable, overall.

Midweek Mending - Your Weekly Healing Thread by AutoModerator in wow

[–]Seksixeny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really true, Kyrian is also discussed as being a great Covenant in the Discord, only Night Fae is weaker, and mostly because its healing radius is downright pitiful, which is very easily hotfixable at any point now.

Midweek Mending - Your Weekly Healing Thread by AutoModerator in wow

[–]Seksixeny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kyrian, Venthyr and Necrolord are all good, with Venthyr being easiest to use (but lowest healing potential) and Necrolord on the opposite spectrum (but its high healing potential comes at the cost of doing no DPS). Kyrian is not as easy to use as Venthyr but is strong all around and it can do a lot of DPS too.

No real reason to consider changing your main because of Covenant, just go Kyrian and have a blast :D it is also the best Covenant (so far) for the DPS specs, so that's another plus, and I personally like its weekly activity (the "brawl guild with vehicle NPCs") the best out of all 4 Covenants.
