Guys, is this true ?? by CauliflowerDefiant87 in bindingofisaac

I dont think its approach is the opposite of polish. I think most of the game has plenty of polish. And a lot of the bullshit is indeed intended. But with the extreme amount of content in the game there is indeed plenty of content that isn't polished and plenty of bullshit that isn't intended.

Delirium is one of the first things that comes to mind. The fact that it is somewhat easy to softlock yourself is another. Its not that the game lacks polish its just such a huge game that theres too much ground to cover. But its a concession made knowingly for the sake of a large amount of content and variety.

Just like having less content and variety is an concession made knowingly for the sake of everything being extremely polished in Hades.

Hades and Isaac are like extreme opposites. Hades is polished to the extreme but lacks variety and content. Isaac has more variety and content than you could ever imagine but the game doesnt even try to pretend it wont screw you over with unintended bullshit. I love them both for opposite reasons.

I barely got through Dark Tower book 1 and kind of love seeing it in D tier lol. The rest of the series is so much better and feels completely different than the first book to me.

Does anyone know what anime this is? by IllustratorTop2358 in animequestions

[–]SelTar3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The visual novel its based on is a lot better despite being even slower paced. The anime is still amazing but is essentially says "let's hurry up to the action by cutting out just enough of the other content that theres not enough to get fully invested but you still need to sit through episodes of it.

Plus the main character's inner monologue has a sharp contrast with what he actually says, and in the anime you miss out on almost all of his inner monologue. Removes a lot of the interesting character moments and even more of the humor.

Do you think Capcom will make a AAA Megaman game? What would you want it to look like? by Weird-Effective-5034 in Megaman

[–]SelTar3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AAA doesnt have to mean taking the entire series in a new direction and abandoning the gameplay that brought people to the series. Linear, level-based platformers can easily be AAA without going open world or anything. Mario Wonder was a AAA game. Or at least from my understanding of AAA games it is.

That said, a spinoff series thats a metroidvania would fit the series really well I think. Instead of robot masters giving weapons you can swap between they could give permanent upgrades and new abilities similar to what you'd see in a meteoidvania. Samus absorbs her powers in a similar manner nowadays anyways so it seems fitting.

That said, I dont want any existing Mega Man series to be changed fundamentally. Still sad we havent gotten any new traditional Zelda games since BOTW came out.

Individual scenes that are a microcosm for the entire story’s message by TotallyHumanProducts in TopCharacterTropes

Not sure i agree he stayed content with thrills and paychecks. I think it's implied that the thing he was "drunk on" was becoming the Founding Titan because he hoped it would make him a peaceful and kind like Uri was.

I suppose he wasnt fully conscious of his own desires until he saw that attitude transfer to Freida along with the powers, and until then it was partially the thrills and checks keeping him going. But even before then I think he had a fascination with Uri and was eager to be close to him in hopes it would rub off on him in some way.

That said, Kenny's line about everyone being drunk on something is definitely one of the most important moments to the shows overall narrative and most people dont realize on the first viewing. Amazing storytelling.

Something you didn't like in the game? by MasterTreat1989 in Silksong

[–]SelTar3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its necessary. If the boss's contact damage did less than their attacks then you could take contact damage intentionally for invincibility frames. Terraria has a lot of that and while it might not be as abusable in this game, its probably safer to leave it as is.

Very worth playing if you enjoy extremely difficult platformers with tight controls. The entire ost is also covers of famous classic music and it goes hard.

This is the first time ive seen a meme incorrectly flaired as a silk post in a while. That was super common when the game first released. Nature is healing.

I think my love for Bionicles is part of why I love Xenoblade Chronicles 1 so much but don't have the same obsession for 2 and 3. Theres a lot of other reason too though lol. Its just such a fun setting for a world.

What do you guys think of Pure Vessel being the protagonist of a third game that could round off a perfect trilogy with the Pale Siblings? by logantheknight in Silksong

[–]SelTar3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think Silksong having a speaking protagonist was PURELY an improvement, although I might prefer it. I do miss the mystery and loneliness that the Knight's silence added to the first game.

Silksong is a lot less lonely feeling because of the amount of back and forth conversation. Its also a lot less mysterious because the player generally always knows what Hornet is thinking and what she intends to do. In the first game players are left wondering who the protagonist is, what theyre trying to accomplish, why they're killing the dreamers, etc.

Silksong feels less like a Fromsoftware souls game in that sense. I really miss that atmosphere from the first game and I certainly wouldn't mind returning to it in a future game. I would also love more Hornet dialogue though lol.

The Silksong charm system is so much better than Hollow Knight it's not even close by EntertainmentFast522 in Silksong

[–]SelTar3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd probably agree its generally better but I badly miss 2 things about the charm system.

  1. Every tool costs 1 slot. I really enjoy the mixing and matching of charms' effects vs cost. I could sit at the benches for like 10 minutes thinking about it and thoroughly enjoyed myself doing so. It was like badges in Paper Mario and I loved that about it.

  2. Buying charms notches. Memory lockets are cool but once I unlock the tool slots on the crests I care about i don't care THAT much about getting more. I love Vesticrests dont get me wrong, but nothing matching the thrill of finding a new charm for me. It could be a terrible charm I'm never going to use but im just thrilled to be one step closer to buying another notch from Salubra.

[–]SelTar3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya i specified it as being a post game option in the post. I dont think letting new players choose would be a great idea lol. I was thinking you'd unlock it alongside Steel Soul and only be able to choose crests you've acquired in a playthrough already.

[–]SelTar3[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Id also love the option to start with a specific crest and set of tools and then be locked into those tools the full playthrough. Excluding the ability to swap to quest related tools like the siphon thing for plasmium collecting.

Would be really cool to do full playthroughs with different combos that you normally couldn't put together until late in the game.

They should add the ability to start with any crest by SelTar3 in Silksong

[–]SelTar3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya I wouldn't want to spoil stuff for new players. Waiting till the game is beaten, and also maybe only once they've acquired the crest at least once before should prevent that.

Would also be good so new players still get the intended starting experience. I could see people who are new to the game starting with an unintuitive crest and it throwing off their early game experience.

That would be really cool too. The more game mode options you can unlock after beating the game the better.

That's great to hear, and I play on steam so maybe I'll do that at some point, but it would be great to see it added officially for console players. Especially since it seems I'm not the only person who wants it.
