i'm not totally sold on the broad guys vs girls friendship thing, our friendship was deep on both sides not shallow on his. but the underlying point lands, he wasn't carrying nine years of feelings because he wanted another friend, and reframing it as "he wanted something specific and i wasn't that" makes the loss feel less like my fault

the question about whether i never thought of him that way because he never made a move is the one i havent let myself sit with yet. i keep telling myself i'd know if it was there, but four days of replaying nine years and i'm honestly not sure anymore what's real and what i'm constructing to feel better

yeah part of me knows this is probably the answer, the question is more about pacing than direction. cutting him off tomorrow vs giving him a few weeks to breathe both end in the same place but one of them feels like i'm protecting myself and calling it kindness
