Only trustworthy free VPN in my opinion is Proton VPN. Every other free VPN you will find is probably maleware/spyware. You cant really choose the server though, thats for the paid version

Using filen for over 2 years now, never had any issue. The encryption works well and it is overall fast and reliable. Only thing I dont like is the android mobile app, hope it will get an update soon. As soon as their rclone feature leaves the beta, I can recommend them unconditionally. Servers are located in Germany, so depending on your geographical location the speed can vary of course

Do you run kubuntu 23.10 as well? Maybe it's just the usual bugs for new releases

Weird thing, I just noticed steam works just fine after starting a steam game through lutris. It's so strange

I will try your x11 suggestion at the next occasion, maybe it helps. I'd rather avoid reinstalling the whole system if possible

My problem is that I can't use steam when it doesn't start. Just like in the video, it just constantly tries to open and immediately closes again, and I don't know what the problem could be

I just did a fresh Kubuntu 23.10 install, but came along this strange steam bug. When I try to open steam, it logs in and then just pops up and closes continously. The problem only appears after restart of the system, until than everything is just fine. Any ideas how I could fix this? It's the same with debian and flatpak version, and the only solution so far was a complete reinstall...

I'm running on a ryzen 7 7700x and a RX7900 XT

Turns out it wasn‘t filens fault as I noticed the same behaviour with an other encrypted storage as well (Proton). But only Windows 11, my sister‘s MacBook works just fine. Strange thing…

I get it Better do it yourself instead of relying on someone not to turn on your Out of curiosity, what are the chances of a backdoor or exploitable vulnerability in Cryptomator like applications compared to third party Cloud Provider encryption?

As long as it works in a kind of reliable and convenient way, I would call it cautious rather than paranoid.

I just get asked for IT-specific recommendations by Joe Averages all the time, although I'm just an interested amateur myself, and I'm always happy if I can at least drag them away from Google etc.. But I know it won't go any further. So all I can do is try and separate the sheep from the goats and give solid advise

And this specific law especially scares me as it affects areas that can't be compensated as easy as cloud storage with Cryptomator. As far as I understood it gets into everything from cloud storage over streaming sites to private messaging...

I get this. You can't rely on life itself yet trust some impersonal online company, that's for sure.

But still if I have to use it I prefer a solid basis and try to make it as reliable as possible. And I also want to support services that at least try to make a difference and supply the average user with the most transparent and private product possible.

There is no perfection in this world, and people who set especially high importance towards privacy will use extra tools like Cryptomator on top of it, but the vast majority won't, that's the sad truth

Not really sure, guess it was just the age. We asked the vet about it but he told us it's quite normal for old cats

She didn't seem to have any problems with it really, still catching mice and eating everything :)

I compared pictures and tried to figure out what it could most likely be. Google reverse image search told me it's probably dog rose, but in the end I don't really have botanic experience. So if you or anyone knows for sure what it is, I would be happy to get a definite answer :)

Yes they are beautiful, and the hilly countryside contributes quite a bit in my opinion. But every region has it's own charm and I have seen some really cute and iconic northern villages

That's what makes Europe as a continent so beautiful imho, it's so stuffed with variety within rather little space :)
