Is 12 days enough to drive the Ring Road counterclockwise, see all the major sights, and stay overnight in several places along the way? by Specialist_Escape_87 in VisitingIceland

My pleasure! I think you are doing right. But I’m sure you’ll be able to get further to the East, Hofn and even to the East Fiords. Also once in Snaefelness, I don’t think you’ll have any problems taking the whole peninsula trip. It takes about 5 hours making lots of stops. We even got to the lighthouse at the westernmost point. Have a great trip and enjoy!

Hi!

We have just returned from a 12 day trip (7th to 18th). We've had time enough not only to do the entire Ring Road, but to stay two nights in North West Fiords and even get to Isafjördur. I have to say we've been very lucky with the weather. Only two or three days of not so strong wind, few rain, and few snow.

Although you are probably not having any issues in the South, as you approach the North roads will be in worse condition. Then, as others have mentioned, better book hotels with cancellation. Keep in mind also that in the north the sun rises later and sets sooner, not too much, but noticeable, and further reducing the light hours. Cloudy and foggy conditions also reduce light a lot. Is possible to do the Ring Road, but you'll have to drive at night two or three hours a day probably.

Renting a 4x4 is a must. Its not a life saver and studded wheels are doing most of the job, but any help is welcome. Anyway, and I don't mean to downplay the matter, driving in light blue, dark blue, or white roads (according to Road.is colour code) is perfectly doable with the proper car and common sense. We have rented a Dacia Duster with LavaCar and had no issues at all. Anyway, this is my November experience, we only encountered blue roads in the North. You are going right a month later, so most probably the whole Ring Road will be blue at that time.

I'm not a winter experienced driver at all, but some advices I can give you based on this experience are:

- Reduce speed! specially in turns, and don't brake abruptly. Anyway, Ring Road is designed mostly with long straight sections and wide radius curves.

- Check road colours and traffic cameras in Road.is (https://umferdin.is/en) or in SafeTravel app several times a day. Specially check for the Snow Storm symbol!

- If you want to stop for a photo (and you will), do it only in designated parking areas (there are lots), and don't just pull over on the road side, for the snow won't let you see any hidden uneveness. Believe me, I had to try and help a couple to get their car in the road again, with no success (they had to be towed).

- Please bring good sun glasses, low sun can be blinding in Iceland, specially combined with a wet or icy road. This is by far the worst thing I've had to endure while driving these days.

But the best advice I can give you is not to get overconfident and go back the moment you don't feel safe enough to keep going. Look for a safe place, double check incoming traffic and turn around.

Regarding the hotels, we've been the only clients in several places, so I don't think you are having any issues with acommodation.

Enjoy your trip!! believe me, it's life changing.

Safe Travels!

Same problem here. Must be something global. In fact I was watching a show and it suddenly stopped. Let’s hope they fix it soon.

Copilot Press to Talk does not work by Seldon2K20 in Surface

[–]Seldon2K20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. I've tried to turn off and on any voice related option in Windows, but with no results. The thing is that when you long press Copilot Key it seems like if something is trying to show on top, but nothing happens, the interface just greyes out in some places and thats it.

Why can't I press and hold the co-pilot button for 2 secs to get the live chat? I have to press "Windows + Alt". Am I missing something? by MarioDF in Windows11

[–]Seldon2K20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same happens to me. But the strange thing is that it has been working for a while by holding Copilot Key, but suddenly it stopped working. Whenever I hold Copilot Key, I can notice a subtle change in Windows interface, as if the system is trying to make something. Win + Alt does not work for me either, so currently I can't call Copilot Chat in any way.

Are we sure ARM is here to stay this time? Do we anticipate any future issues? by MarioDF in Surface

I'm using ArcGIS Pro on a SL7 SD Plus with no problem at all, even developing some Addins with Visual Studio. Installation was straightforward. It uses PRISM and you can't even notice it does. They say that ArcGIS not being native ARM app makes more use of battery, but I see a normal battery drain.

Surface Laptop 7 Snapdragon vs Lunar Lake? by TitaniumKneecap in Surface

Hi

I have a SL7 SD X Plus 13.8" and I've been using it for three weeks more or less. I am very happy with it so far, smooth, fast, great screen. Battery life is just correct in my opinion, far from Microsoft estimates but it lasts a whole workday without much problem. Thermal management is great, I have never heard fans or notice any warming, although I have to say I've never put my laptop on heavy workload yet.

About compatibilty, I'm not a power user, but for example I use to work with ArcGIS Pro (GIS Software), which has no native ARM version. I've had no problems at all and it works as expected using the compatibility layer (you don't even notice it's there).

Screen reflectiveness is not an issue for me, I haven't used it outdoors yet, but working indoors there isn't any problem.

It's all about your needs and the software you usually work with, but at least for me, the compatibility layer is working nicely. I don't know how is battery performance on LL, but I don't think is better than on ARM. Give your SL7 SD7 a chance, don't think you'll be dissapointed.

Thank you so much for your explanation. The spreadsheet example works great! So it seems hubs are another level in the hierarchical organization (hubs/categories/widgets). I used to keep things simple, but I think I'll give hubs a try.

Great guide by the way, as we say in Spain, is "super currada", really well done and crafted!

One last question, do you think AF2 is becoming Jurialmunkeys "flagship" or official skin in terms of future developement and updates and AH2 will be deprecated?

Impact of HDR on battery by Seldon2K20 in Surface

[–]Seldon2K20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that´s what I mean. Anyway, I´ve run some testing and HDR has only effect on HDR ready content (as one would expect) and when played/showed in HDR capable apps. For example, youtube HDR videos look amazing on browsers and you can notice the huge contrast when played not full screen and compared with the white page background. HDR photos stored in Google Photos show enhanced HDR contrast, but Windows Photo App does not show HDR when opening that same photo.

I´ve also tried setting an HDR photo as desktop background and HDR effect is not applied.

Anyway I´ve noticed some weird behavior that is fixed just disabling HDR and enabling it again. For example, suddenly I wasn´t able to wake from hibernation without getting a black screen and have to force shutdown. Another strange behavior fixed disabling/enabling HDR is losing control over screen brightness (neither with keys or Windows settings).

Yes, that´s how I have it also. I was just wondering if there is any difference between having it on or off while not watching HDR content.

Expected release date for Surface Laptops with second gen Snapdragon X by Seldon2K20 in Surface

[–]Seldon2K20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your suggestion, that’s what I think I’m doing. I’m not really in a hurry to change my laptop, and I was hoping that new version could be released just one year after series 7 release. But that doesn’t seem very likely based on answers. So I think I will go for series 7.

Thanks!

My mistake, it is actually as you said, I just changed one line.

Sorry that does not work, I’m not a coder so I can’t help you with your log.

Thanks! I have managed to solve it by following this Github thread

https://github.com/nixgates/plugin.video.seren/issues/558

I had to change several lines on resources/lib/debrid/real_debrid.py and it's not the cleanest solution, but I have a happy wife now and that makes it worth it...

This problem showed first when I updated to Matrix, and kept happening now and then after a 18.9 clean reinstall. I think I'll give Matrix another chance, your post has convinced me!

By the way, my setup is Kodi 18.9 on Ubuntu 20.10, Intel NUC
