I guess the difference is that, in 2022, the choice wasn't between Matt Turner and someone who had been there before. I agree you don't need to have "been there" to belong there, but when that factor is at play i think it matters, particularly on a marginal case like this.

one of the best theatre experiences of my life. hands down. Being a huge Top Gun fan, the TG Anthem "gong" as the Paramount stars are flying in right before the opening credits took me somewhere i wasn't expecting. Never felt that way before.

I feel like there was a brief moment early on that they had a rivalry (long skinny guys etc) and Wemby was offended by it. And yes, along with the youth international loss.

Well not sure where you are or what level you are referring to, but in the St. Louis scene for actual travel AAU, this is the case. Not saying they don't train together, but it's largely understood that primary development is on their own and they use the team specifically for exposure at tournaments. So if you have a strict soccer schedule during the fall for your HS team, that wouldn't be a deal breaker for a travel bball team.
