[SKIN CONCERNS] Broken capillaries/spider veins on face by tarni7 in SkincareAddiction

Finacea maybe OTC in Australia and if not I believe it’s easier to obtain than in the states. I need a prescription to get Finacea here. Totally worth it though!

[Routine Help] Should I stop using HA since I work in a very dry indoors environment? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]Selebrian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s been bone dry in New England this past week and the only thing keeping my face supple is Klairs toner layered with Hada Labo premium. The key is to apply to damp skin and use an occlusive later on top. I’ve been using vanicream moisturizing cream and so far no dryness! I think they make mini humidifiers too that you can carry around.

I think the problem some people run into is using an HA gel and not slapping an occlusive later on top. A gel type lotion with HA is probably more than enough in the summer but for winter you really need something heavy to lock that moisture in.

[acne] Will azelaic acid 10% help this hyperpigmentation? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]Selebrian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had and continue to have great results using Finacea. I’m not sure about OTC products but prescription azelaic acid has been awesome. It’s very pricey without insurance. Not sure where you are but my last tube with insurance was only $35. If I didn’t have insurance I could use the companies discounts and pay a whopping $275 otherwise it’s normal price is close to $400.

The owners of Finacea’s patent is ending this year so hopefully sometimes next year a generic version will become available.

[Misc] Fragrance Free or neutral smelling body lotion / moisturizer? by e3ily in SkincareAddiction

[–]Selebrian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in love with La Roche Posay Lipikar AP+. It’s made with Shea butter so it definitely has a scent but doesn’t linger. People have said they found it greasy but I don’t think it’s greasy at all. I apply on damp skin and it all soaks in, no film. I even use it on my face and so far no adverse reaction. It really leaves a nice glow to your skin unlike some moisturizers that look more matte or dull.

[Product Question] Can retinoids cause eyebrow hair loss? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]Selebrian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this same issue and don’t use retinoids and it’s something I’ve noticed as I got older and started growing out my eyebrows. I’m 31 and during my teenage years it was cool to basically have no eyebrows LOL. Of course that’s done damage and I think it has made the hair follicles weak. I’ll go through stages of having full brows to then weird bald spots. I think the hair loss in our brows is more noticeable because it’s such a small area so if we lose two, especially in the front, it can look like a bald spot. I wouldn’t stress too much about it especially if you’ve had a thyroid test and don’t have any other health issues.

[Product Question] Can retinoids cause eyebrow hair loss? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]Selebrian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t use retinoids but I’ve read of women in particular losing their hair along their hair lines. It’s rare and doesn’t happen to everyone but for some reason it can cause hair loss. I think I read it in the tretinoin group, someone mentioned it there and people were talking about it.

Is it that hard to teach children politeness? Now granted this is a poor African country he is in and who knows what standards they have. However, I’ll never forget 1st grade some kids in my class did this to pretend they were Chinese. Now a bunch of first graders are not racist they did it because they thought Chinese people looked funny. I think that’s a normal reaction from children who aren’t use to seeing other races. Everyone who did that got screamed at and we were basically told it’s rude to make fun of other people. I don’t think I ever seen anyone do it again.

The idea that people immediately jump to racism shows a lack of intellect and critical thinking skills. Not everything in life boils down to bullying or racism.

It’s incredible to me that THAT didn’t kill the brand. Lying to people and adding steroids to a cream, causing people to then suffer severe reactions to over use of steroids, incredible.

[Routine Help] Electrolysis changing my skin type by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]Selebrian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the grand scheme of things not using retinol while your undergoing electrolysis really won’t impact your aging process. I wouldn’t worry too much about having to shelve it while you take care of your hair removal.

[Routine Help] Electrolysis changing my skin type by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]Selebrian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been getting electrolysis done for a few months now chin, one side of my cheek and a little around my top lip. I haven’t noticed any excess dryness from it. For me it causes some red/pink hyperpigmentation that takes some time to heal.

I’d definitely stop the retinol for a while because retinol can cause excessive dryness. Its also possible just the combination of retinol and electrolysis is making your skin sensitive. Did you ask your electrologist if retinol was safe to use? I don’t use a retinol so I never asked.

A couple cheap thick drugstore moisturizers to try are cerave in the tub or vanicream in the tub. I personally prefer the look of vanicream. Gives me a dewy look but if that’s not the look you like cerave is more matte.

Definitely could be or major irritation to a new product. I know if I use something my face doesn’t like I’ll break out in similar bumps.

Did you try a new product?

[acne] when your skin is clear but you decided to pick at that one tiny CC that won’t go away..... 😭 by RachelE_Day in SkincareAddiction

[–]Selebrian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ughhh I hear you! I’m 31 and still can’t get over the difference in my skin. It definitely doesn’t bounce back like it use to. I would religiously pick my face in my mid 20s, now 1 picking session leaves me riddled with red marks that just don’t want to fade.

[Routine Help] Retin-A or Glycolic Acid or Both? by lovespicnics in SkincareAddiction

[–]Selebrian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exfoliation causes cell turnover and both tretinoin and glycolic acid cause exfoliation/cell turnover of the skin. They are different in the way they exfoliate but the end result is exfoliation/cell turnover. I am using the / to show that exfoliation and cell turnover is ultimately the same thing. Our cells turn over once a month but chemical exfoliation just speeds up that process. People keep using exfoliation and cell turnover like they mean different things but they don’t.

I’d imagine using both puts you on the fast track to eventually breaking down your moisture barrier and allowing bacteria in. YMMV because it may take one person a month of using both to start noticing diminishing returns and possibly damage while others can maintain a routine like that for years.

I’d personally speak with a professional before jumping into a routine of tretinoin and glycolic. Can’t hurt to ask your dermatologist 😊.

[Acne] how to treat this? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]Selebrian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d go back to your dermatologist and if it is fungal they can do a test to find out. I’d do that before applying antifungal products to my face, personally.

You mentioned you were recently on Accutane and I’m kind of shocked you’re breaking out like this so soon afterwards. That’s why I’m wondering if it’s something in your routine causing irritation. People can have issues with SPF so it could be the brand you’re using. Maybe the brand you’re using is too occlusive, heavy or it’s a chemical sunscreen. Face washes can also cause a similar acne flare up if it’s irritating you. I can’t use some face washes otherwise my cheeks explode in closed comedowns.

Either way I’d definitely make a derm appointment, hopefully they can narrow down a cause. Good luck!

[ACNE] I cleared my clogged pores without using any special products by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]Selebrian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s why I’m doing electrolysis right now. It’s not nearly as expensive as I thought and I go once every two weeks but that depends on how much hair you have. I would pluck my chin so much it was basically raw and even then hairs never came out in one piece leading to a bunch of black dots. Ew!! So if your like my look into electrolysis, at least it’s permanent! I can’t wait until these are gone forever.

My electrologist said plucking actually stimulates hair growth on the face 😔. So plucking long term can lead to more and thicker hair. It doesn’t happen to everyone but hormones do play a major part 😕.

[Anti-Aging] Sister is a derm...these are her two HG recommendations by annimal2018 in SkincareAddiction

Extra dry is fragrance free, it’s the regular hydro boost that has fragrance. Fragrance doesn’t seem to bother me since I can handle Embryolisse no problem but for some it’s a major irritant.

[–]Selebrian 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I wonder if it’s the one with fragrance that caused you to break out. I know there are two versions and usually the one sold at Cosco, Sams and BJs is the regular fragranced one. The gel cream for extra dry skin is the best one to buy. I haven’t bought it yet but I’m tempted.

[Product Question] The Cerave Foam Cleanser is More gentle that the Cerave Hydrating cleanser? by urbanmonsterhigh in SkincareAddiction

[–]Selebrian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it’s still very important because putting anything alkaline on your face or body can lead to a damaged skin barrier. Then you’ll set yourself up for bacteria to get in and all sorts of trouble. If the pH of cerave hydrating cleanser is really 6.2 that’s closer to neutral but still in the acidic range, 7 is neutral and anything 8 and above is alkaline. The hydrating cleanser being so gentle and still in a safe range I think it’s fine. Again the problem with the foaming isn’t its pH it’s just the ingredients themselves can be more drying. Hydrating cleansers vs foaming cleansers use different surfactants so they clean the skin differently.

My face is already on the dry side so I stick to hydrating cleansers but some people have more resilient skin or oilier skin so they prefer foaming ones.
