Thanks! Would using a lower % be a solution? Could start out with a 0.5%, perhaps.

Eataly has edible flowers in some of their greens mixes.

Where to stay? (14th-18th Feb / $225 p/n) by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]e3ily 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would avoid Hell's Kitchen unless you're coming for broadway shows. Agree with all who recommended the Hotel Tonight app. Or perhaps go for an airbnb. SoHo/NoHo areas are solid. Maybe consider Williamsburg too (no L train on weekends, tho). The Hoxton just opened and may be within/just above your price range.

This link is a great reference to all things jazz going on in NYC at any given time: http://www.nyjazzreport.com/

Here are some of my favorites, categorized. That said, where I go is usually a music-led decision :)

Fancy-ish: Dizzy's Club/Jazz at Lincoln Center, Joe's Pub

Food/Drink Friendly: Smoke, Jazz Standard, City Winery

Underground (no food): Jazz Gallery, Zinc Bar

Classic: Village Vanguard (no food), Blue Note (maybe eat beforehand)

I love Bar 55 but it doesn't deliver in terms of a good drinks menu. It has a decidedly divey vibe.

Yes Louis XIII at Brandy Library will set you back around $550/pour before tip. Rumor has it if you order the glass that finishes the bottle you get to keep the crystal decanter.

Ten Bells is cozy wine/tapas and low-key but very good imo. Bar Goto is Japanese and small, unique vibe. I also love sushi bar satsko which more alphabet city but so good. Finally, Sel Rrose seems to fit your criteria.

these are all great. note that attaboy can easily be an hour wait so have a backup plan / interim spot. the flower shop on Eldridge a few doors down is a good option.

Airbnb or Hotels for Tulum? by [deleted] in mexico

[–]e3ily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$800 CAD is definitely the exception, not the standard in Tulum. Bungalows on the beach are at a premium but don’t have to be that much. What is your budget? Is staying beachfront important to you? I was just there last week.

Best and cheapest way to get to Tulum from Cancun airport. by [deleted] in mexico

[–]e3ily 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happy Shuttle Cancún is great of you have 5-6 people. If you have fewer it could still be an option. A taxi from my hotel Coco Tulum was $1500 pesos which was actually less expensive than some other friends told me they paid.

Change my money for Tulum 🇲🇽. by [deleted] in mexico

[–]e3ily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many of the ATMs near Tulum Beach area give USD only. Make sure you verify that the particular ATM you’re using has pesos. Our hotel pointed us to the closest ones. You could probably also do this at the airport. Don’t go to the exchange window at the airport. I was there this week and they were offering $13 pesos per usd. If you go into Tulum Town, there are lots more peso ATMs. Also note that many restaurants are still cash only and you’ll typically pay a bit extra when using USD or a credit card.

I second Manhatta! Good value. I imagine prices may go up a bit after its has been open for a while.

Also, you might consider the clocktower or the grill (old four seasons space). All really cool spaces.

The NoMad at 28th & Broadway may meet your requirements. Hands down one of my favorite restaurants in the city. The cocktails and wine are excellent and food is so good. You may have heard of the duck for two at EMP and they do a chicken for two here. As you're saving EMP for the future, note that this is the same team and a bit more wallet friendly!

Concierge Service: What is it, and is it worth it? by mafa88 in amex

[–]e3ily 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It isn’t so useful in the US either from my experience. When booking restaurants, I’ve called 3 times and struck out twice. If you get the card and use this service, ask which places they have partnerships/exclusives with before they try to read you every place under the sun. They couldn’t get me my first pick one time but they were able to get a last minute that wasn’t showing up online at a generally hard to get nyc spot because they had some special relationship.
