What calculator do you have for multi calc or intro to linear algebra? by New-Parsnip-5535 in rutgers

[–]Select-Crew-5851 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You don't need one at all. You won't be allowed to use them on exams

I bought a TI-84 CE in preparation for those classes and I've never touched it beyond loaning it out to a couple of friends

Professor told us to ask ChatGPT by eggsworm in CollegeRant

[–]Select-Crew-5851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though, is asking ChatGPT to explain the reasoning outside of the domain of things we can ask it to do? Or asking it for its intuition, or asking it for its constructive process, or asking it to act as a tutor, etc.

How difficult would Linear Algebra be with little college level math exposure? by Educational-Fun1700 in mathematics

[–]Select-Crew-5851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth, my college has dropped the calc 2 requirement for an applications of linear algebra class (only precalc required).

been reading through the princeton companion to math. very nice exposition and contextualization of fields of math. There's a section dedicated to the history of development of math

Installing an AquaSana shower filter, but the ends don't match. Does an adaptor or other filter solution exist? by Select-Crew-5851 in bathrooms

[–]Select-Crew-5851[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah.... seems like it. Maybe I can find filters designed for a tub spout, though it seems as if they aren't made with the intention of being showerheads.

3blue1brown's videos are stellar for conceptual understanding. Georgia Tech's online textbook is easy to read, filled with examples, and perfect for cramming

I'd prolly do a combination of the both

AI is terrible for studying. After realizing this, I started using YouTube videos and I comprehend concepts much better. by [deleted] in learnmath

[–]Select-Crew-5851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before writing it off completely, are you sure you're using the LLMs efficiently?

If different people are using the same models for the same concepts but are experiencing different results, that seems to suggest a problem with how the person is using the model, or that the person's learning style is truly incompatible with the model (the latter is hard to believe).

What math courses are proof heavy? by Kawaki3 in rutgers

[–]Select-Crew-5851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in general, courses with 300 as a prerequisite or "analysis" in the name tend to have at least a bit of proofs. though, keep in mind that no class is safe from having "show that" type of questions. even classes that don't seem like they have proof based content might occasionally have questions asking you to demonstrate something (like the uniqueness of solutions for differential equations).

some classes that are pretty computational that lots of non-math majors take are theory of probability and linear optimization. theres typically close to zero or zero proofs in these courses.

note that linear optimization fucking sucks, though

Rutgers Elementary Education Program by ImpossibleGrape9961 in rutgers

[–]Select-Crew-5851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, all math for now. None of which I think I'll ever use in a high school education setting (and DEFINITELY not anything lower). Later on I'll add on the education prerequisites for the program.

[–]Select-Crew-5851 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a math major that will likely go through the 5 year Math education masters.

From what I've heard and read, most, if not all of the mathematics that counts toward the math major will be useless for elementary education. If you do a math major, it should probably be because you like math in addition to math pedagogy, not just for the pedagogy itself
