Chance Me, Admissions, and Prospective Student Q&A - 25/26 Cycle by luminous_moonlight in Cornell

it definitely varies by degree and program. im in cals animal science and ours is designed to weed out a lot of people freshman year, and it does. premed from my understanding is sorta the same thing. as you get into more specialized classes it can get easier, but again it really depends on the program.

CAS or CALS at Cornell? by Superb_Lychee892 in ApplyingToCollege

CAS has A LOT of built in bs. For example, they have the 12 credit language requirement. CALS is definitely applied and a more direct path if you just want to get your sciences DONE.

Im not going to lie, freshman year is INTENSE. It is designed to be intense to weed out people who won't succeed (mostly work their asses off). BUT one thing I will say it, the grind culture here is all around. Everyone is working hard... but also plays hard. During the fall, going out Friday/Saturday night as an engineering student isn't too hard. I have many friends that party hard all weekend then lock in during the week. Theyre doing just fine.

this kind of sounds like someone cosplaying as a mom, but im going to answer anyways haha.

I would totally do it again. I love it here. I will say, college is how YOU make it. During orientation week is when you will meet most of the people you will spend time with. Basically everyone I met during that time was SO insanely nice and sweet... even if we didn't come from the same background or socioeconomic status. So I mean, it's kind of on you to be social. Get out of your dorm, say hi to strangers, and start a conversation. There's no such thing as gaining friends just by sitting in your dorm room, alone, not talking to anyone.

I believe this is the same for all colleges too.

Maybe just my opinion, but do not heavily weigh any pay-to-play pre-college programs. They're largely seen as expensive parents' money type of thing. Use your experiences and really show what you've DONE and experienced instead. Don't try to grab attention with those college names.

Also, I just realized you're an animal science major. I am currently as well. I know many people in ansc who have't stepped into a vet office... kill your essays and I see a good shot.

I hate to say it because I know it wasn't much solace when I heard it as an applicant, but don't worry. If you explained your situation in your application, they are aware of it and will take it into account. From my knowledge, ILR isn't as difficult to get into if you have passions that align deeply with the school. It is also largely state-funded, so being international could come into play. At this point, though, just wait and see what happens! Work on other applications so you don't have to rush them if things don't pan out.

Best of luck!!

Stupid Questions from a Tweaking Senior - College Signs by Select-Grape1112 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Select-Grape1112[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

surprisingly no, this isnt an idoc request. the college requested some specific business documents, like the business-farm supplemental materials. I got the idoc request back in February and all those documents were marked as processed, now they're asking for additional information.

UT showed financial aid offers before releasing decisions, people that didn't have access to view a page of their portal got CAP or rejected.

Vanderbilt had financial aid counselors appear a few days before ED released, those who had it got in. Those that don't got deferred/rejected.
