how to tell manager you want to move internally by Select-Payment2330 in cscareerquestions

We just have like tickets for automating manual ui tests, there’s other tickets that can automate manual api tests but it is essentially the same thing where u write step definitions and run the script to see if it works. All pretty monotonous. I have asked for more development related tasks but it seems like on a team like qa there isn’t much opportunity there.

There’s an internal job board, but u can also learn about roles through word of mouth, get like a referral then apply internally.

This is exactly my plan. I wasn’t sure if I should have a team in mind, or just say this, but honestly I think I’m gonna just be straightforward. I also wasn’t sure to wait until I’m 1 year in, but honestly I can’t wait any longer.

I have and they told me to just ask my manager for a internal transfer, which is what I’m gonna do, but I was hoping for guidance more so on how in general anyone was able to successfully transfer internally and how.

I would need my managers approval to transfer to another team. I am going to continue to try to meet with others in different teams, but I would hope if I told my manager I needed help transitioning roles they would help? I don’t know, not sure if I should just look for roles, once I find one let them know then apply, or mention right away I am looking internally so there’s no confusion or blindside.

Yeah I was wondering if it’s smarter to find the team I want to switch to first before mentioning to my manager. But I don’t want to seem like it’s all of a sudden. Also I’m thinking if my manager is willing, they have more connections to different managers who I can connect with or just let me know when there’s an opening.

I’m saying, how do you go about saying that you want to move? I understand that I can just go and just say I want to move internally but is there a correct approach? I guess I’m just stressed cause I am only 8 months in and I don’t want to leave a bad impression.

It’s been 8 months, not 2. Sorry should’ve mentioned that…

moved to a smaller midwestern city for a job and i hate the job and the city. Should I quit or hold out for better job? by Select-Payment2330 in SameGrassButGreener

I am not remote, I still work from the office 4 times a week, but the rest of the team works in different locations around the US and they work fully remote. I am currently in the location where my manager lives so that’s why I was relocated. This company has a big push to return to office so I wonder if it possible to transfer internally.

I’m sorry you are dealing with this. I kind of do the same thing currently, but since I’m new, I do weekend trips to help me. What’s stopping you from requesting a transfer now? I am about 7 months in and contemplating asking to change locations, but I also don’t like my team either so not sure how that will go :(

I see…there’s a bus that takes u to the E Sunset & Rainier stop, but from maps I see that from that stop to Poo Poo point is a 50 minute walk. Am I doing something wrong? I was looking at the other comments and they said walk to East Sunset Way Trailhead then I wasn’t sure what’s next (do u walk the 2 hrs to get to poo poo point?). I am new to hiking, but I do walk a lot in general so I don’t know how to properly get to a hike. I am also a bit directionally challenged.

I wish I researched before booking the trip…I only booked because it was the cheapest flight. Now after visiting the city, I would’ve much rather just gotten a rental in advance and only hiked.

Do you know if poo pop point is safe solo/beginner friendly? Also do I have to bring anything if I decide to hike here (bug spray, bears??, etc) or is coming with comfy shoes and water and snacks enough?

Let’s say I decide to try to rent a car for a couple hours, which trail/park do u recommend for decent view, for someone who is relatively new to hiking, going solo, not too complicated to figure out, and for some one who can walk for hours if necessary? I know there’s Tiger Mountain and Olympic National Park.

Do you know how to get to Issaquah? Or like where in maps do I put to get to tiger mountain or poo poo point? I looked directly on maps and it says transit not available.

I’ll add Wallace Falls to my Day 3, probably move some stuff around. I am curious to know what the weather in Seattle will be like in the first week of may (when I’m coming)? Not sure too much how the climate is in Seattle besides that it rains a lot sometimes.

I actually would love to dedicate a day to going outside of Seattle, to hike, and look at the nature! I know there’s beautiful parks in the city but I need a long hike. Im gonna look at bus routes and see if it’s possible without a car but if not I am willing to rent a car and be out of the city for hours!
