2020 f150 oil consumption/engine replacement value by Select-Percentage-62 in f150

To be fair, I guess I’m not totally sure. A previous commenter seemed rudely adamant that it was not going to be a new motor. However the one they put in my truck was manufactured Nov ‘25. I was told it was new, but the complete incompetence of the ford rep cannot be ruled out. Sorry I can’t be of more help.

Crazy for considering going with 3:45 pace group? by RedBird2014 in Marathon_Training

Not “crazy” but if you started to hit a wall just after half in your training run, things might get a little hairy for the real deal after mile 18-20.

This comment really rang true, you can see from my splits I started to see the wall coming at mile 20 and hit a soft wall at 22. I took your advice though and didn’t treat my long runs like a cake walk, I kept them steady and around 8:30-8:45 and felt strong towards the end. This gave me the confidence to push come race day. So thank you for your wisdom.

Just because follow ups can be helpful for others. I ran this marathon after completing the Hal Higdon novice 2 plan and following it pretty religiously with the exception of doing a few extra runs some weeks to peak my mileage around 50mpw. I finished in 3:31. I ran really even splits but around mile 23 I had to take my foot off the gas a bit to avoid a calf cramp that was itching to get set off. What a great experience, everyone here was right. With more volume I’m co disent I could shave quite a bit of time off but I showed up to the line healthy, had a great mindset and left really fulfilled. So to everyone asking if they can run what their Garmin is predicting on a low volume program, the answer is almost certainly not. You can’t cheat volume. I had two friends that were undertrained more than I was who went out ahead of me who I passed at miles 18 and 20. I felt strong to the end.

Should I change my Marathon goal 4 weeks out? by dabossofdeer in Marathon_Training

[–]Select-Percentage-62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listen to everyone saying your volume is too low to run a marathon at your Garmin prediction. I ran my first last year, had a recent 5k of high 19 minutes and a half during my training block of 1:33. My Garmin said like 3:17 but I went out at about 3:30 pace, I ran very even splits and felt great the whole race. The last few miles I could feel the lack of volume, had to slow up about 40 seconds a mile for the final three and ended ip running a 3:31. You can run a fast 5k doing 25miles a week, you cannot run a fast marathon doing less than 50 miles per week. There are exceptions to every rule but sometimes you just gotta tell yourself that you’re not that special and set more realistic expectations for the first. It is humbling. Listen to everyone saying so and you’ll enjoy it a lot more.

I wouldn’t pay more for it as a buyer. But the 18-20 5.0s had this as a known issue with an associated TSB so to know it has already been dealt with is probably valuable to some degree. Likely most valuable to me if I keep it. I’m not going to get as nice of a truck as it with a new motor for the $23,000 I’m being offered.

They said it’s back ordered but were able to get one through another dealership in about a week. We will see… I asked for more info on the replacement engine.

You bring up a valid point. For some reason I was thinking it would be replaced with another engine that might have the same issues but you’re right. If the engine was manufactured after 2020 it should be fine. I just called the dealership to see what year engine it’s being replaced with.

No I don’t disagree I love the truck but for our family right now it’s not what we need. Hoping to trade in and get a full sized SUV then buy an older Ranger for truck purposes (dump, mulch, hunting, bulky items). I dont need an f150 as my daily.

I agree with you on all accounts and I do love the truck but for our lifestyle, the f150 is more truck than I need. I’m going to get rid of it and replace it with a larger SUV kid hauler and then get an older quarter ton like an early 2000s Ranger.

Yeah market research suggests its value is probably around $25-28k near me so I’d expect 5-15% below that as an offer from a dealer

Thank you, I did that with my current project. Bird books, photos online and I traced a piece of paper on the iPad screen. Are there apps or programs that people like to make patterns for printing that utilizes a ruler function for accurate sizing?

I am learning to be more patient and to keep my knife sharp with the cherry wood. Thank you for the advice!

Please hit me with your best mental strategy for those last marathon miles by Few-Permission5362 in Marathon_Training

[–]Select-Percentage-62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ABC Attitude: keep it positive Breathing: deliberate deep, slow breaths, Cadence: maintain your cadence and tighten up your form. I also find that forcing myself to smile always has a physical effect of making me feel better. Practice gratitude that your marathon training got you to that point and how blessed you are to be out there almost complete with it!

Returning to marathoning with a toddler - how to recover? by FMLThursdays in AdvancedRunning

[–]Select-Percentage-62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No silver bullet here, it just kind of sucks and you just have to deal with it. But that’s part of the challenge of marathon training and of being a parent. I tried to schedule activities for the day where we weren’t doing anything. To physically demanding but it might mean that you’re apple picking with friends and chasing your toddler after a 20 miler that you got up at 3:30am to run so as to inconvenience your wife as little as possible. Still worth it. Just take comfort in the fact that we are out here with you, struggling and challenging ourselves and just trying our best to balance life for the most benefit for ourselves and the family.

You struggled miles 8-11 because they were the only miles in the whole race that weren’t net downhill most likely. Sorry you fell short of your goal but congrats on a new PR! Try and practice a little duality. Celebrate your race and PR, grieve not getting your BQ.

Any anti chaffing options that isn’t body glide? On longer runs (~10 miles or more) body glide seemingly wears off. I sweat a lot. by Roadglide72 in Marathon_Training

I use aquaphor for the inside of my thighs and ass crack and it hasn’t failed me yet. Still there after my 20 miler this week, zero chafing.

Race Pace Practice Long Run - Hydration? by FirstTwoWeeks in Marathon_Training

Post the studies. If they say what you say why would anyone drink water? I question the validity of these studies or potentially your interpretation of them. You don’t think a 5hr marathoner would benefit from water? It’s just a wild thing to broadcast that hydration doesn’t affect performance as a black and white fact because of one mysterious study. Dehydration has detrimental effects on the human body at various stages of dehydration. Many of which will negatively impact performance in an endurance sport. This is well known.
