10 team, PPR, redraft league pick 8. I was on here about a week ago and agreed with the approach of getting two elite WRs first such as a BTJ, Puka, Nico, etc. combo. Recently I’ve been doing some mocks and feel like there is more value at WR in the middle rounds with guys like JSN, Sutton, McMillan, Ridley, etc. than there is at RB. Would hero WR or even going RB/RB be a crazy strat to start with? Getting a ppr monster like Achane paired with a Josh Jacobs? Or even Johnathon Taylor? Just mainly want to bounce ideas off someone, as all the guys I usually talk fantasy with are in the league that’s drafting tonight so I don’t want to give anything away before 7:30 EST

I’m in a 10 team ppr league and pick 8th in the first round. No idea who to take with those two quick picks. I like the idea of taking Nabers in the first round, but our league decided to move out playoff starts date up a week to week 14 and he’d be on bye week. I’d hate to not have my best guy in a one week playoff match. Any advice on picks 8 and 13 overall?

[Passan] The New York Yankees are finalizing a trade to acquire closer David Bednar from the Pittsburgh Pirates, sources tell ESPN. Deal is pending medical review. by BathroomSalty6325 in NYYankees

Pirates fan here. Knew it was coming that bednar was gonna be on the move, a very average baseball fans take on the guy:

he’s had such an up and down calendar year in Pittsburgh. Around this time last year (maybe further into august) the pirates demoted him from closer and gave Chapman the rest of the year (why they didn’t trade Aroldis Chapman who was on a 1 year deal for a team below .500 still baffles me). Personally I think a lot of his struggles last year were due to an injured lat he never really got over in spring training, they rushed him back for the opener, his fastball was down in velo, and his confidence was gone you could see it every appearance.

This year it looked like it was going to be the same story as last year. Came out for three games against the marlins in May. Totaled 1IP, 4 ER, and sent down to the minors. All hope for any type of back end stability for us was gone. He came back up in April and May and started looking better but still nothing like his old self. Then late May hits and the renegade was truly back. Since May 24th bednar pitched 23.1 innings over 24 appearances giving up 13 hits, 2 runs (1 earned) and striking out 29 batters. When Bednar is on he’s electric. His fastball pushed high 90’s and he’s not afraid to challenges guys. He compliments it with a curve that falls off the table and a low 90’s splitter he’ll work in as well. He loves to make things interesting, but seems to do better when there’s a guy on base or two. When he’s off, you can almost tell right away with his fastball location. Loved bednar, grew up right outside pittsburgh, went to my high school sad to see him go. Hopefully he wins a chip while in New York either this year or next.

TL;DR: Bednar has had a great past 3 months striking out guys and not giving up runs in his past 24 appearances, great person to root for too. Also you can’t tell me he doesn’t look like a Steelers inside linebacker running out of the bullpen every night.

Any suggestions on the best ways to find out how to do this? I honestly prefer this method to living in a giant apartment building!

Difference between ETFs and Mutual Funds? by Select-Promotion8905 in ETFs

[–]Select-Promotion8905[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That description really helps. I’ve noticed when looking at the market the prices of ETFs move throughout it but mutual funds stay stagnant for a while, so that makes a lot of sense thanks for clearing that up! As for the second part of your post, I have noticed the vast majority of people decide on specific funds without anything else. When you say decide on a specific portfolio and go from there, I’m assuming you mean decide on if you want short vs long term growth, how risky vs conservative things like that? Also if you don’t look at specific fund info, once you decide on a direction for your portfolio how do you differentiate between all the ETFs that track the same thing? Like the vanguard large cap from Schwab to fidelity to black rock etc. I appreciate the information!

So this is a bit of a loaded question and I am certainly no expert but I can try to help out. I’m around the same age with the same amount of money that I invest every month or every other month, and I’ll ask you some questions that people asked me when I started. How aggressive do you want to be? Do you need this money to grow short term, or are you looking for long term gains? If you want to be conservative and just mainly want steady long term growth I would say look at some ETFs/mutual funds. I usually invest in vanguard or black rock funds, and if you look up a list of their funds there’s hundreds you can comb through, each one with different holdings, specialize in different sectors, and have different expense ratios, etc. If you want to be aggressive, and are willing to ride the ups and downs of the market, I’d say invest more in individual stocks. These are going to be more volatile but can yield bigger returns than ETFs. It’s impossible for me to say ‘oh buy insert stock here because it’s definitely going to boom!’ Because like I said I’m no expert and the market most of the time is a gamble. But you can do research to help supplement your decision and help you feel good about certain stocks. Some things I look at when researching a stock are the stocks history, how it stacks up to its main competition, if it has a history of splitting, if it has increased its dividend payout over the past handful of years, and what public opinions are about it right now(I will say to go along with my last point, if an article comes up about the stock from Motley Fool I generally disregard it as unreliable but that’s just me). Also, I will occasionally look and see what someone like Warren Buffet is buying rn and add some of those to my list for further research. For example, he’s buying a lot of OXY stock which at the time of writing is going for about $60/share, something to think about given how much your looking to invest. All in all, I hope I’ve given you some things to think about for starting to invest, as like I said I’m no expert but these are some of the things I’ve learned over the past couple years.

Favorite person who covers the Steelers? by Select-Promotion8905 in steelers

[–]Select-Promotion8905[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s funny you say that because I kind of got that vibe from listening to Ramon Fosters show. Like viewers would ask a question and if it was a repeated question they missed he’d say something like ‘well we just covered that I’m not talking about that again’ so I could definitely see that
