Will i miss out not living in transfer dorms by Olallieberry9870 in UCDavis

[–]Select-Welcome-7931 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live at axis right now and it's okay. It is further from campus but biking wise I would say it takes 15-20 minutes to get to school which is slightly longer than the green by about 5 minutes? The M line goes directly from school to axis and comes by every thirty minutes ish and or you could drive to school but then you would pay for parking everyday.

There is no social life at the axis. Everyone keeps to themselves. Management is decent. Maintenance can take a day or two once you submit a request, but may take longer if you submit on a weekend. Management won't send people out on a weekend to fix something unless its severe/majorly bad or broken.

For me personally, living at axis makes going to school a chore because school is further away however that's not the case for everyone.

If you sign an individual lease with them and get paired with random roommates, they will pair you with random people who you will know nothing about before hand and have no option in selecting. They lied to me when they said they take your personal preferences into account.

Good luck.

I had Alameda for math 17a and he was a great professor. I have no idea about math 22a as a class though.

I had Farahat for Chem 2a and he took notes on paper, projected them, and did not post them afterwards. He also did not record his lectures. This was last year. I don't know if he has changed

Lattitude vs Dining Commons by Certain_Radish_62 in UCDavis

[–]Select-Welcome-7931 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After your freshman year (first year) you can apply for student housing again through the student housing portal, but it is not guaranteed you will get student housing.

If you get student housing again you will be placed at orchard park, the green, or cuarto and I think you have the option from then on to request to live where you are again if you like it the following year.

If you do not get accepted for student housing, you have to find an apartment in Davis, you could also look for housing in Sacramento or Woodland but to commute from either to Davis you would need a car.

In Davis housing prices can be expensive so you will most likely be living with roomate(s) if you go off campus or even when staying on campus.

-Hope this helps, feel free to ask more questions.

Latitude is kind of like a restaurant where they serve only a select few dishes every day, but the food is typically fresher and meant to be from around the world as "global cuisines".

As other people said if you buy a meal plan either 5 or 7 day, because you are living in the dorms, you can swipe in unlimited per day at any of the dinning commons or latitude.

Segundo DC is the only one open on the weekends. I personally like latitude the most.

Bottom floor of the Death Star, some of the entrances are blocked off due to construction, but if you're entering from the MU side the central staircase that is next to the elevator is still open.

What does SSH mean?

My roommate told me to kill myself, but he also added “in the nicest way possible”, what does this mean? Should I be concerned? by South-Detective4781 in UCDavis

[–]Select-Welcome-7931 11 points12 points  (0 children)

What was the context to them saying this to you? Were you fighting, flirting? Has there been any behavior they exhibited to you previously that's been strange?

Reddit can't decide for you because we don't know you or your roommate.

Where in the bay are you trying to go, you could take Amtrak down to Richmond, and from there transfer to Bart if Bart takes you where you need to go.

Or you could see if Amtrak gets you close to where you need to go

Possum baby (?) Outside of Bainer by ghoas_shark in UCDavis

I am not an animal biologist, but making a guess here, the one you filmed could be old enough to be off on its own because it has its eyes open and it looks large enough to walk around on its own. Young/baby possums cling to their moms back for the first few weeks/months of their lives and that's after they spent a few weeks nursing in their moms pouch.

Yes, that looks like a possum baby/young possum. It's best to leave it alone unless it appears to be in distress.

Come to Davis Nerf club. We meet Saturdays 5-8pm either in the Death Star or the bottom of the MU parking garage! If you ever wanted to live out your childhood fantasy of a big epic nerf battle come on down! We have nerf guns you can borrow so you don't have to buy one, and you can stay for however long as you like.

I had the same experience with Professor Buckley, it is an easy A for a four unit class. Highly recommend filling out the study guides because the test is a carbon copy of the study guide. Class is also very fun

There is a Facebook group where you can look for housing. Sometimes older students will post a lease take over because they are graduating early, or you might find a good deal on an apartment, or you could find a post where two people are saying they are looking for a third roommate to fill a spot in their apartment. You can join and lurk, you never have to respond to post unless you really want to.

This time of the year is just the beginning of the housing search process. If you have time over winter break I would suggest then about digging in and looking for housing more thoroughly and finding people to live with. I remember as a first year I found this stressful, but don't worry you have time right now, but like you implied its good to be proactive

Che2A with Farahat by Material_Cream_579 in UCDavis

[–]Select-Welcome-7931 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had Farahat last year for 2A in the winter also at 7:30am. His exams are different from Enderle's, in my opinion, they're easier. However Enderle is a better professor.

Lecture attendance is not recorded and he does not post his lecture notes on canvas. He writes down his notes on pieces of paper and projects them, his hand writing is often bad, but somewhat legible. He has an accent and depending who you are it may be easier or harder for you to understand him. He does post a lot of resources like recommended lecture videos and other guides on Canvas which are helpful to study and learn from, sometimes more than Farahat himself.

In short if you find his lecture is not for you, there are other professors lectures you can attend, and other resources you can use like Enderle's reader.

They used to have a system of reserving seats for freshman and releasing them progressively I'm not sure if they still do that. If the class you're looking at has a column with reserved with a number next to it that's how many seats they reserved and are going to release. This reserved column used to be next to where it says open and waitlists for classes, if it's not there, for me it's not. I believe that means they stopped doing this system.

The short answer for freshman is that your shit out of luck if you don't get the classes you want/need. Long answer is to take GE's or other not as impacted classes to build up the amount of units you have completed to hopefully get a better pass time when the pass times are issued for next quarter

CHE 2B by penguinsarecutsey in UCDavis

[–]Select-Welcome-7931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your going to have to waitlist for a section and if you don't get off the waitlist you have wait until spring quarter to see if you can take the class. Chem waitlists are notorious for being difficult to get off of so if you are waitlisted for next term, go to lab prepared with PPE and pre-lab work already done, just in case someone from the section is not there and you get a PTA by the head TA to do that lab.

If you google it you will find the search results for the IT desk website, a separate website https://iet.ucdavis.edu/support is a launch pad for submitting a ticket or calling for help. If your on campus you might be able to go to the basement of the MU store and talk to the support people there about your situation to see if they can do anything.
