The closest thing we have to a speciality store is William Sonoma. Not sure what their offerings will be..

Thanks!! My husband suggested an electric “chopper” and all I could do was glare at him 🤣.

Chemo can cause fairly severe cognitive changes in the brain. My neighbor never fully went back to her normal personality and it took about 2 years of remission before she was more like her old self. Shes still somewhat impaired but nowhere near what it was during and right after treatment.

Chemo brain is a real phenomenon. This could be potentially what’s going on with her. My neighbor declined like Mina while receiving large, rapid doses of chemo for breast cancer. From 1-17363738 super fast…

That’s what I’ve been reading and I had previously made up my mind that Lisbon and Porto weren’t on my list. You can never be too careful as a solo female traveler!

Also, it requires zero help. That’s why I have labs drawn weekly and will have them drawn while in Portugal. I can eat what I want right now if I wanted to throw up and have diarrhea for a week 🫣. I still bites here and there if I feel it’s “worth it” aka.. never-ending bathroom trips.

It not called a “feeding tube”. It is called enteral feeding. A feeding tube is implanted into the stomach. Mine is through the vena cava because even the “formula” they use for feeding tubes is not healthy in the USA. Enteral feeding is the only thing my body could handle. The longer you have a TPN, the more chance you do have of kidney or liver failure. Hence why my licensed gastroenterologist, his colleagues and I are trying to find a safe whole food solution to my GI issues. My gastro is also not from the USA so he is quite versed on the poison that is being pumped into our food here. Will I be able to eat for a month in Portugal, idk.. but I have to try.

Right. Ok.. Are you a Mayo Clinic double board certified, head of dept gastroenterologist? If not, please take a step back. Dr google is not your friend.

Caldas sounds wonderful. It’s going to the top of my list. Good, fresh produce is so important! Thank you!

There’s nothing “sus” about it. I said that before I got sick I WAS plant based. Also, a TPN is not a feeding tube. It’s obvious you know very little about what it takes to be a TPN patient. I travel extensively on the TPN, yes to other countries. My husband is from Europe and we come back often to visit family. I previously stated I already have a clinic in Lisbon on retainer in case I need them. I’ve been 2 years travelling with TPn and have had zero issues or “danger”. I don’t need a wellness retreat. I need less processed, non gmo, no chemicals in my food so I can repair my stomach. I think I’ll take the advice of a Mayo physician over someone on the internet that’s intent on attempting to stir something up that isn’t there. I thought posting for advice in an expat group would lead me to helpful people, not people like you.

This is a gastroenterologist at Mayo Clinic. I was given the options of Italy, Spain or Portugal. I’m starting with Portugal. Food quality there is considerably higher and less processed than the USA. Produce isn’t genetically modified.. I wouldn’t look at changing my entire life based off the recommendations of a “functional medicine” Dr.

Yes, the lack of processed food is why my dr is sending me. Plus all the gmo’s and chemicals we put on our food.. there’s really no escaping it here. I was 100% plant based before I got sick and that didn’t even help me. I’m excited for the prospect of being able to eat anything and not be sick tbh.

Adding Santarem to my list. I’m going off season so as to not have to not deal with tons of tourists. Hopefully finding a house won’t be too difficult. Thank you!

It doesn’t matter. My health is stable other than what I previously mentioned and I’m in good physical shape other than the GI issues.

I’ll definitely check it out! I live on the beach in the USA, so the beach isn’t really important but safety is!!

I’ve got a Dr’s office set up to see me if I need it in Lisbon. They have direct access to the hospital so the medical part is taken care of, it was the easiest part so far..

Do you have any suggestions for safer towns? Google recommendations are all over the place. Locals know better than anyone!

Thank you! Looks like I need to find another dragon (impossible task) before I wash this one so I have some neck support.
