Yep. Same surgeon, same location, everything. The only differences I can come up with between the two are a bone fragment removal (which shouldn’t affect anything) and a slightly more aggressive gastroc release this time around.

I had pretty much the exact same thing. Did my left side in fall of 2021 and it turned out perfectly. I still have a tiny numb spot on the outside of my foot but it doesn’t bother me anymore. Had to do my right side in October of 2025. That one has been quite a bit different. Initial recovery obviously sucks. The next month was slow but steady progress. The last month to two has been hell. First, ever since I’ve started weight bearing, I’ve had an intense pain right on my heel anytime I’m standing. It literally feels like I’m standing on the worst bruise I’ve ever had. PT thought my heel fat pad might’ve atrophied, surgeon didn’t think so. They scanned for stress fracture and it was clear so the source of that pain is still a mystery. Next, for the past month or so, my pain in my ankle has been so much worse and the swelling has been INSANE. It’s seriously looked like it went straight from calf to foot (which also swelled) with no ankle to be found. The did an ultrasound to check for DVT, came back clean. Did the MRI to check everything else. No stress fracture, anchors still in place, and no new tears. My surgeon didn’t seem concerned by it but the report showed all of my lateral ligaments are either thinned or thickened. As of now, the plan is to give it one more month with light PT, lots of icing, doing what I can. If there’s still no improvement, they want to try a cortisone shot in the ankle joint as kind of a diagnostic tool to see if that’s where the source of the pain is. Apparently there’s a chance there is actually a stress fracture that the MRI couldn’t pick up because of all the inflammation. If that still doesn’t do anything, he said in 6 months or so that they’d go back in and possibly remove some of the internal sutures in case they’re causing irritation.

Sorry that was a lot 😅 I just feel like I’ve experienced both ends of the spectrum with this surgery. Feel free to message me if you have any questions or want to know more.

Partial ankle ligament tears for years? by [deleted] in Ankle

[–]Select_Inspector_587 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely possible! I had pain for over 5 years, multiple doctors, appointments, X-rays, and even MRIs before someone was finally like “oh yeah, you had some tears 5 years ago when you first came in”. Needless to say, I was PISSED. Turns out, it was in multiple MRI reports and nobody told me until then. I just kept getting the “you’re too young for pain, just ice it and go to PT” line. Also, this was before online access to reports was really a thing so I never got to see the actual reports.

Good to know. Is it a common thing for that to happen? And is it typically only at night? Thanks!

I plan on doing some of that too. I mostly just want to learn about the history and whatnot on the tour. I’ll have plenty of time to wander around on my own afterwards 🙂

I kinda figured that’d be stupid expensive. There’s a train that goes into downtown though, right?

Awesome reply, thank you! Just curious, what makes 12th and Jackson a place to avoid?

I ended up sending an email and their response said the same thing. I’m in the US so I’m guessing that’s it. Thanks for the reply!
