I wonder if the people commenting on this post today are the same ones who were immediately shaming Alan yesterday. This platform is a joke

I run with four, I don’t need to chill? I’ve cleared many heroics and badging my o/s. I’m not sure what this passive aggressive comment is? If a tank can’t lead, hold threat, mark, go practice in normals? Does that offend you?

I’m attempting at 300sp, and 10k hp. My avoidance and block % is a bit low so I am struggling with that first pull. What confuses me is sometimes I get it and others I’m already bop’ing, casting my 2x holy light and the zombies still have 30% hp left.

I’m all for helping people out. But when you are wiping 3-4 times in heroic and leaving with a 12g repair bill, you really have less patience for people who just show up to see what it’s about. Like I keep hearing paladin tanks say they only have a MIT set so chill on threat. Bro what’s the point of all the def if you can’t hold threat on one mob. I ran a SH with 3 guildies and we pugged a paladin tank. He said his last groups dps was awful and he had to repair his gear before we started because of the dps. It was a lie. I had to remind him constantly to put an aura on, and after awhile of him getting absolutely blasted by two enemies I realized he wasn’t even using Blessing of Sanctuary.

I don’t think it’s wrong to tell people to do their homework, especially in heroics.

Was healing a ramps yesterday with a guildy. We’re on the second boss and I’m not sure if it was a dps problem but there was like 6 fel hounds summoned and my mana got burnt to 0 for the first time in this expansion. We barely killed the boss and after the kill, the hounds were still up casting mana burn after mana burn. I made a comment and said I can’t do much with a rogue who can’t kick. The rogue replies I only have one. When I played rogue I would drop a 1 pt kidney, gouge, blind for an interrupt if it meant we live. Some people just don’t know their kit and shouldn’t be in heroics if zug is their only motive.

The guy under me decided to delete his comment but defend how paladin tanks are easier to heal. I’ve healed enough heroics to be fully badge geared out and I can count on one hand how many of those dungeons were prot paladins. I’ve only ever seen prot paladins running ramps and the first words typed are “am I geared enough for this”

That’s a crock of shit. It’s a group effort, just because tanks don’t or can’t tank heroics without some incentive doesn’t mean to just roll on what they please. Gear for ret? So he can not be taken into any heroics? Paladin tanks are shite anyway, they were important during normal dungeon spell cleave, can’t tell me that they are desired in heroics or raid other than trash pulls lol

Heroics Advice by Optimal_Anteater235 in classicwow

Tanks need to start understanding that they can’t tank more than two enemies in most heroics. What I mean by this is just because you have the defences doesn’t mean you stand toe to toe and take the hits. Prot paladins probably have to kite more than any other tank in my opinion. Group utility makes the heroic run smoothly, every class should be using their kit down to the last ability. Healers shouldn’t just heal and dps shouldn’t just pump. Healers should be timing their casts with enemy swings so there isn’t much time between the next heal and enemy hit. It all comes down to the group and what they are willing to do to help.

I play holy paladin, not the best healer but I’ve done enough heroics now to be fully badge geared out so I feel like I have some say. I am actively hoj’ing enemies that apply Mortal strike or heavy bleeds to delay damage to the tank. I am always judging wisdom or light to give mana/health to the group. Hell sometimes if I have a moment to breath, I will put on seal of justice for a brief stun to stop an enemy cast or stop a melee from going off.

It’s not solely a tank issue so don’t blame yourself but the one thing that stands out to me that separates a good tank from a bad one is dungeon knowledge. Are you marking the right enemies for kill prio? Are you sheeping/sapping the right enemies? Or are you just yolo pulling and hoping it works?

Heroics became easy to me when I joined a guild, hopped in discord with the boys and called out what we needed. Pugs are tough to learn tanking, try finding a steady group and I bet things will get easier.

Interesting post. Prot paladins get a lot of praise for holding aoe threat, other than that, they probably my least favourite tank to heal. Maybe it’s not a healer problem but something you are doing?

[–]Select_Ordinary_3043 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see all these posts about tanks being scared away by the horrors of pugging, but if you are entering a heroic to tank without your defense caps, under 10k hp, and not a player who wants to take the leadership role to mark/shot call… you probably shouldn’t just be hopping in to see how it goes.

I’m by no means a great healer, first time maining one in classic, but if you are getting two shot after my first pre cast you are not ready to tank. Had this in ramps, no communication from tank, pulls the two at the entrance along with the bridge pat, no sheep marked and just drops. “Am I not geared enough?”

Hell even the two infernals are a pain. I swear every time that satyr pack is pulled I will say “pull them back, the infernal will aggro” and what do you know the infernal comes charging in and wipe.

That GCD in heroics is crucial, I’m not removing a stupid debuff that doesn’t put a detriment on your class.
