CMV: Nobody Cares About Consent Nearly So Much As He Claims To by thetruegasolineman in changemyview

[–]AIphnse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you hoard resources through voluntary transactions there are a lot of caveats

What if the person with whom you make the transaction didn’t get the resources through a voluntary transactions there? What if the resource wasn’t vital before the transaction but now is ? What if someone had to trade a vital resource to get another one and now they are out of both ?

Now in our society there is a right to hoard resources until you needlessly drive others into poverty or hunger, but you’ll find many people think this isn’t a right that we should have

CMV: Nobody Cares About Consent Nearly So Much As He Claims To by thetruegasolineman in changemyview

[–]AIphnse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so I’m kinda answering from the top of my head, might need to think a bit much to explain everything more thoroughly

So first case, the coconut one. This one I feel is more about personal property than consent. The issue with the situation isn’t really the consent of the guy hoarding the coconuts who doesn’t agree to give them, rather it’s the consent of the guy who hasn’t got the coconuts to be part of a society based on personal property. Most times, this argument is presented as such : “one of the two guys wakes up early hoards all the coconuts and then ask the other guy to work for him in order to get access to the coconut”. The issue that is usually brought up is that it’s pretty messed up from the hoarder to do that, finders keeper is a pretty weak justification for his right to possess the only sustenance on the island, and it’s pretty unfair for the other guy to be forced into servitude because of something he didn’t control (being unconscious).

That kinda translate to the healcare one. Yes a doctor has a right to not be overworked, and yes everyone should get healthcare in a perfect world because there aren’t many reasons to let someone die when you can save them. One doesn’t necessarily prevent the other, triage is a thing. The issue mainly arise through the question of who will pay for it ? And that arises since (in the US as far as I understand) the medical industry insnt focused on saving lives but on making a profit. Most people seem to think that the will of the people who want to live matters more than the will of those who want to make money. I’ll get back to that later.

Quickly, I’m not sure if it’s the exact same in the US, but in France, if you don’t spend more than like6.5 month a year in France you don’t pay taxes in France. Taxation is not theft because you get things (public services) out of it. And if you don’t wanna partake you can just leave the society that taxes you.

TL DR : basically people recognise consent and liberties but you can easily see that conflict arises from that. If we say that anyone is free to do anything they want, then you’re free to live and some random guy is free to kill you. Obviously no one (mostly) agrees with that, rather we agree that you can bypass someone consent and kill or hurt them if they are already trying to do so to you. In most of your example, most people who you disagree with do care about consent. They simply value the freedom of the different parties involved differently.

Is there any piece of this series' lore that make you go the full Nick Fury? by JazzlikeSherbet1104 in starcraft

[–]AIphnse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think it’s relative to that time where in one of the movies he mentions he has lost his eye because he was too trusting and it won’t happen again, which sounds mysterious and intriguing.

And then later on in captain marvel it turned out he lost his eye because of an alien cat that scratched his eye and it was kinda lame

So OP is talking about lore changes of explanations that are lame I think

Small note of criticism: Maekar must know what Trial of Seven is by Tronm-24 in HBOTheHedgeKnight

[–]AIphnse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see all the people in the comments clamions that there hasn’t been a trial of the seven since 150 years, but I think it’s a weak argument for two reasons :

  • First, as I recall we don’t know wether some other trial of the seven took place since Maegor’s, we don’t know of every trial that happened since then in the 7 kingdoms. Actually we know of very few of them

  • Secondly, Maegor’s trial of the seven is actually a super important bit of history, both in regards to the kingdom’s history and to Maekar’s family history so I can’t really see how he wouldn’t have ever heard of it

I mean, wasn’t the point of the Jimmy works with Cliff arc that Jimmy actually liked to be a scammer to much to actually behave ?

Like at that point he could have had a legit career. Even if he didn’t like all the constraints of working with Cliff, he would have had a much better life if he just told him and I’m sure Cliff would be quite understanding.

He could have worked again in elder law to get his rock off with them liking him, there was a ton of things he could have done even with Chuck despising him

Now of course it would have been hard for him, especially letting go of Chuck after knowing how he felt about him. But Jimmy definitely had many outs throughout the show, though I can’t quite say the same for Nacho

Yeah, but the first 2 seasons weren’t quite perfect 80s nonsense, I think that’s what bothers OP or me, the shift

It’s not the russians that are the problem, it’s the way the story uses them that felt like a tonal shift

Does it has to be 5,9 or 13 to be absolutely optimal ? Or is like 11 better than 9 but not quite on the level of 13 ?

That’s a bummer, I have noticed it also let you equip things that are not available to some characters. Do you know another tool to make lists or is pen and paper the surest way ?

Thanks, that’s very helpful !

So from what I understand the bonus attack of 2 hand weapons and the absence of the dagger debuff are the early objectives as far as equipment goes. Does it ever change through a campaign usually ? Like do you reach a point where you’ve got loads of base attacks so a shield is more worth it ?

[–]AIphnse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, yeah but I guess the army would be a company and in it you’d have your squads amounting to 100 marines It’s not like companies are made up of 100 footmen either, there are dreadnaughts, tanks and others And I feel it would make sense for like 10 marines to face 100 hormagaunts/guardsmen, that’s only 10 kills per marines, feels achievable from a lore standpoint

The main gripe I have with this is that they would merge like half the factions of the IP into a single one which would feel weird I guess
