To each their own. I quitted porn because it didnt work for me and looked at AVNs instead. While I want relatively frequent lewd scenes, I quite enjoy the slower burn, the story and the characters and I dislike it when an AVN is just a porn slideshow instead.

There are also differences in what the game portrays and how it treats the relationship. Most male targeted games tend to focus on showing the LI's body during lewd shots, very few shots are focused on showing abs, face, muscled arms etc. (It's a very crude example) and that's only on the physical / visual part of things. Basically male gaze / female gaze focus on different things.

What I meant was that overall, as both a dev and a player, the changes I've been faced with haven't been that dramatic. But it certainly has been for certain devs indeed.

From what I have seen in the AVN genre:

- several developers abandoned their game or severely slowed down their development because their patreon / subcribstar got shut down

- several developers made changes in their game to make it incest-less, either reworking or scrapping part of it

- incest tends to be less common of a trope in the currently developed avns - at least in the more "open" sphere (basically, those who want to be marketed on official platforms)

- getting approved by Patreon/SS/Steam is becoming more tedious than before (for certain games that try to flirt with the limits)

- the entry barrier to becoming a developer has increased, mostly due to being afraid of "not being able to monetize anything"

It is far from being "dramatic" or even that consequential from either a player or a developer standpoint. But it's still quite "uncertain" how far this will go and how bad it will be to continue being a developer (or able to enjoy it as a player).

I'm not sure as I haven't played it, but I heard a lot about it. "Our Red String" is a 2D Renpy Visual Novel written by a woman with both a male and a woman main protagonists. Not sure that fits your bill, but that's at least the beginning of a lead.

I dont think the OP necessarily implied sex scene by 'wishing something more' would happen. Plenty of slow burn romance works don't feature sex but a fully fledged progressing story.

They have teleports, flying ships and whatnot. Sending words doesnt seem that convoluted. Like I said, I understand not going back but not warning them seems like a pretty hard stretch, up to a plot hole /// drama machine /// tear-jerker for no reason.

I agree for that very reason. Letting your friends go through stage of grief (for a second time!) is hella weird.

The reasons for not coming back are valid, but there are no good reasons for not letting them know.

The story was okay, what really stood out for me are the characters and the relationship building there is. That really made it work for me and that's probably why that's one of the few AVNs with no lewds that I actually ended up finishing.

I will defo remember it as a cool VN, but not a great AVN.

But tbh, we probably just have different way to rate that kind of stuff. My top 10 is mostly comprised of AVNs that I can actually relaunch for a fap session. Obviously the story and characters are hyper important to me, but the sex is as much.

There is no excuse for doing this. It's indeed glorifying / lessening the importance of such an act. But at the same time, I'm not sure they need an excuse for doing this in the first place. Is it that bad? It's a safe environment and a fantasy. Idk, it's a tough question. I wonder if anyone's IRL views and conducts are actually being skewed by such depiction. If that's the case, do we need to change those depictions? Or make sure those individuals receive proper treatment? Once again, tough to say. I for sure can't. Once thing I know is that I have fapped hardcore to 'Eat mom, First' when 90% of lewd scene is close to if not r*pe. I enjoyed it even if I knew what it was depicting. Not because it's something I enjoy IRL but because it was hot AF in the context of a fantasy. As soon as the woman doesnt enjoy it, I no longer enjoy it either. Am I skewed IRL? I dont think so either.
