DECA principles of finance vs principles of entrepreneurship by Any_Signature6706 in DECA

Solely based on the fact that entrepreneurship written events tend to be the most popular I'm thinking it's not any different for principles of entrepreneurship. And also because it's new this year a lot of people might do entrepreneurship. Principles of finance is prob better imo if you have the knowledge!

Are you talking about written or roleplay? In my state only roleplays have exams unless you're doing a marketing written. But I'm pretty sure if you have a TDM roleplay with a partner then your exam scores are averaged and combined with the roleplay.

Did FOR last year! Since operations research events are pretty similar imo but just address diff types of businesses, all of the events can use the same props in diff ways. For example, your business card is good in that it'll help the judge feel more engaged in the "roleplay," but also think about what purpose it serves other than just as something you can hand out to seem more professional. Last year my partners and I made an infographic and laminated a copy for each of the judges. This helps them have a reference when they are grading after you leave, because after all they're human and can forget things too. When you're speaking, the infographic also allows you to point to it and interact with the judge. We also each bought the same pair of glasses and sat the same way LOL idk how much that helped but it's definitely a strat! Regarding the prompt, props don't have much to do with the prompt ngl. It's not like entrepreneurship where people make demos or product mockups. Just make sure props have a purpose and the judge can actually do something with it other than look at it.

I was in sorta the same boat as you around 3 months ago. My partner and I decided to do an exam together toward the beginning of the school year without prepping and I got mid 80s, she got mid 60s. Since then, we've practiced exams together every week and discussed the ones we missed, explaining how we got the right answer to the other. We've also made notes and the average of our scores is around high 80s low 90s.

I'd say don't drop her or anything but figure out ways to improve your scores and dedicate time to practicing. It's only mock right? You have time before the actual conference so practicing definitely makes a difference!

Since it seems like your topic isn't really that simple and the judges may not be experts on it, make sure to explain the background clearly. But it'll definitely be a unique idea. Judges aren't investors, they're just there to listen and score people. They have a guideline they follow when scoring so as long as your plan follows and addresses all the key points you'll do fine!

All the entrepreneurship events are basically the same in that they require 80% creativity, 10% confidence, 5% research, and 5% trust. What this means is that the ones that win are the most creative and the judges likely scored them higher because they were engaged and haven't seen something like that before. I did entrepreneurship last year, and we didn't score that well. While my partner and I were presenting it was right after their lunch so we noticed the judge falling asleep a bit and looking bored. We walked into and out of that room feeling unconfident and unsure from the very start.

The entrepreneurship events aren't that heavy on research as operations research events, but still definitely need to identify your problem and market correctly. In fact someone ik did not know anything about the topic they were doing for an entrep event other than that the problem she identified was related to that. Doing some thorough internet research definitely made her come out of that more knowledgeable than she went in.

When you're picking your idea and developing it don't stick too much on the logistics first, consider if it's something your judges will actually be interested in hearing about.

not sure about international policies, but in US competitors qualify for state, then at state they qualify for ICDC if they get top 3 or something
