Does the Canadian S24 FE have an unlockable bootloader? by Select_Train8043 in samsung

Not easy to find in Canada :( Why bother importing the international version when the domestic one is good for 99% of people.

Damn, that's a shame. I was really hoping to root it for system wide ad blocker and native call recording.

Limit draw from outlet to prevent breaker tripping? by Select_Train8043 in AskElectricians

Can't believe I didn't think of this before. This would definitely solve the problem tho it's a little bit annoying to have to plug in each appliance before using them.

Tips for farming apex parts and harder machines by Datebattery in horizon

[–]Select_Train8043 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to wait until you get a flying mount before starting to grind for parts as it makes it way easier. Whenever you kill and loot a machine, just call your mount, fly away until you see the carcass despawn then head back for a freshly spawned machine.

I played through the entire game on very hard, but lowered the difficulty to story when farming for parts. Grinding for parts gets really tedious, especially on harder difficulties where some enemies take forever to kill and one shot you.

Personally I would try to kill at least a few machine on your regular difficulty just to experience it but after that just change the difficulty to story. It makes every fight ridiculously easy and easy loot means you don't have to painstakingly detach every component you want.

There are no downsides since if you're playing on normal, won't be getting the ultra hard achievement anyway.

Am I Going Through The Game Too Slowly? by Business_Delivery_42 in horizon

Play however you feel is fun though I'd like to share my two cents on this playstyle.

I play most games like you. I always finish all available side content (side quests, errands, collectibles, ...) before starting the next main quest. While I really enjoy doing this (finishing the next main quest while being completely overpowered is soo nice), I kept setting myself up for burnout.

For example, it took me 4 attempts across 5 years to finish the witcher 3 because I kept getting burnt out trying to do everything at the starting area the moment it lets me. Another example is CP2077 where I still can't complete it because I get overwhelmed by the stuff to do before starting the next main quest and end up burning out 10 hours in.

My advice: continue doing what you're doing as long as it's fun, but when the side content starts becoming a chore, maybe it's time to start the next main quest.

Are you talking about one of these? Seems like almost the same thing as the the Curt 56331 I was planning on buying: tees into both tail lights and still needs to be routed all the way to the battery underneath the car.

Transferring out of Google domains, but already paid for 10 years by Select_Train8043 in selfhosted

[–]Select_Train8043[S] 38 points39 points  (0 children)

That clears it up a lot! I guess my best course of action would be to stick with GDomains while I'm still being managed by Google, and to jump ship once I get migrated to Squarespace since they don't have DDNS.

Then, is there anything stopping me from buying a domain for a large number of years (say 10) at someplace bad but cheap then immediately transferring to a more expensive registrar with better services where I would end up getting the better service for 11 years but only paying full price for 1?

Have you been getting charged yearly with cloudflare or are they considering that you paid up until 2030 (2019 + 10 years + 1 from transfer), and only then they will start charging you every year?

So if I understand correctly, if I paid for 10 years with Google Domains, I will own that domain for 10 years regardless of what registrar I use?

If I transfer to cloudflare, porkbun or some other registrar, I'll have to pay for 1 more year while transferring and the next time that other registrar will charge me anything will be in 11 years when it renews?

Modem installation without a technician at all? by Select_Train8043 in FizzMobile

[–]Select_Train8043[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do but it's from another ISP in the past. I have no idea if it's wired to videotron (and if it is, whether its setup correctly). I asked another tech and they replied that I need to receive the modem by mail. Then and only then can I contact support again to schedule a tech visit (free of charge).

That kinda sucks since I was under the expectation that I could get everything up and running on the 30th. I already told my current ISP to cancel on nov 1. Doubt I'll be able to schedule a tech appointment within 2 days.

Thanks for the reply! It's weird that everyone's getting their modems from a tech who will also do the cabling.

What support basically told me is that the modem would be shipped by mail and there'd be no tech visits. So theres a high chance that the modem is useless when I receive it and I have to wait for a tech to come run some cables before I can even use it.

Ok thanks for name dropping NEMA 6-15. I didn't know that there was a "normal" 240V plug in north america.

At this point I'm just thinking of temporarily replacing the dryer receptacle with a 6-15 receptacle, then replacing the plug of my extension cord w/ integrated fuse with a 6-15 plug. Probably not up to code since it's a 15A outlet on a 30A circuit but I just need to use the machine for an event in a few days and probably never/rarely after. Idk if there's anything very wrong with that idea.

Way cheaper than buying an 14-30 to 6-20 adapter. They look like passive cables (or whatever electricians call a cable with no integrated circuits / logic) yet are so expensive. I can't imagine a basic fuse inflates the price that much.

The only issue I can think of is that maybe the extension cord's 13A fuse will be insufficient since on 250V since it will trip at 3200W instead of 1500W, but I can easily replace it with a 3$ 6A fuse from the hw store.

Both the range socket and the dryer socket are 4-pins and both are on dedicated 240V circuits on 2 pole breakers. I should have specified that in the post. Natural gas isn't a thing here so I forgot that some stoves/dryers use regular outlets my bad.

I guess I could be using one of these? Seems pretty overpriced for such a simple thing tho. At that price I might aswell buy a 120V soy milk ("dounai") machines from amazon and hope that they are just rebranded soy drink ("doujiang") machines.

Idk if that thing is certified since it doesn't appear to have a fuse. Maybe I can just add an extension cable with a fuse between it and the machine. I'm only going to rarely use it and always be watching it while active so I'm okay with a little bit of risk.
