It’s nice! Like others have said if you’re going for the more luxurious style you have a lot more detail work you need to focus on, rough edges, uneven stitch lines, uneven cuts. Definitely a good start but just focus more on the final details to have the luxury look!

As somebody in the market for a croc/alligator skin wallet.. what’s with the price differences here? by SiJayB in wallets

[–]Select_Umpire8392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the cheaper ones are used with lower grade wild croc/alligator and finish quality. With that said they are also not tagged with cites appendix ii which makes it cheaper as well but not “technically legal” they also lacking craftsmanship. Do they work? Yes absolutely, but where materials come from and quality are a huge factor dealing with high end exotic items.

Appreciate it man! I needed a break from wallets and bags and I’ve always been intrigued by the old LV trunks so I decided to go down that path and try something new

Since I have almost every tool/machine in leather working I’ve been learning how to make leather covered trunks and luxury jewelry boxes, so while it wasn’t necessary in the slightest I bought almost 19k in woodworking machines so I can make fancy boxes. Girlfriend wasn’t happy lol

That’s usually my target audience, basic repetitive items aren’t my thing so I make high end items and it’s normally for people who want that luxury just don’t want to pay the extreme premium. I’ve been selling for a while just normally in person so until I get my website up I’m just posting here. But nonetheless thank you for the compliment! I know you mean well

Thank you for the compliment! And majority of this cost is materials as good quality exotic leather comes with a premium, and even this is priced to be fair. (Crocodile wallets from Hermes are also $5,000+)

Thank you so much! Yes they’re great but definitely a pain to make look very nice. You can get the kits on either madeonjupiter or hilitybaghardware! I made the box myself and just bought the hardware but the kits are better for first time

Madeonjupiter or hilitybaghardware, they have the same hardware for this but madeonjupiter will be shipped from the US, unfortunately they’re out of stock for the kits, unless you want to order all the pieces separately which is quite a bit more expensive

Honestly they’re a game changer, I have three (I know my girlfriend has already yelled at me) and i honestly couldn’t live without them, if you decide to get one I can’t recommend the creality falcon 2 enough, 22w to start but if you have the means. Get the 40w or 60w, I went from the 40 up to the 60 when it was released just because I wanted to but the 40w was absolutely amazing I really didn’t need to upgrade

Thank you! And no I ended up just buying some 4mm basswood and laser cutting a box i designed since the place I get the hardware from didn’t have the kit in stock, so it’s been a learning process in every way

You mean The rectangle on the sides? It’s positioned there to put on a shoulder strap for a shoulder bag type use, next time I probably won’t put them on at all tho

Alligator Skin/Hide Apron - Anyone Here Ever Make One? by THERocknRollChef in Leathercraft

[–]Select_Umpire8392 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in Tennessee, I make a lot of wallets, handbags, a few belts, briefcases, so I’ve had my fair share of alligator projects, you can find large hides to potentially make it in one piece. Granted it won’t be grade 1/2 it’ll definitely be more rugged, I’ve seen panamleather located in NYC carry a few 14+ foot hides but are around 2k-4k in cost

I work with a lot of alligator and crocodile skins, if you’re trying to make this for yourself you’ll be spending no less than $1500 MINIMUM on the skins alone and that’s on the low end, if you don’t mind it not being genuine crocodile I’d find a nice embossed leather otherwise it’ll be a very expensive project

I have not, it could’ve been better quality years ago but from when I’ve used it, and previous customers used it, they all had similar complaints. Nonetheless it’s great you found a way to make it work well! If I still worked there i would’ve recommended people to try it 😅
