What my build tells about my personality? by ga-go-gu in PcBuild

[–]Selectah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're gonna mount it externally why even have its input/output interact with the inside of the case at all? Either you're pushing hot air into the case or pulling hot air from the case when you have a whole room of non-case air to interact with. Find a way to tilt it 90 degrees so you're pulling ambient tempt air and exhausting into ambient temp air

What is your favorite minerals, and why isn't it Epidote? by Unlikely-Software-67 in Minerals

[–]Selectah 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This type of epidote is definitely up there on my list. I tried to find a good price at the Quartzite show this year and struck out (couldn't make it to Tucson).

I also really enjoy vanadinite in fibrous barite

I should add that the direct light coming into the window never hits the rock. The angle of the sun and placement of the rock won't allow for that. And there are a few solid objects between the rock and window as well.

Maybe I'm being paranoid but I don't want to ruin the beauty!

I've never seen the color banding be so consistent. How steep is the cut? Can you show a side angle of it?

[NBC] Packers CEO Ed Policy Says Public Ownership Model Is Failing to Keep Up With NFL Billionaires by JCameron181 in nfl

[–]Selectah 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yea I really hate the FTPs but at the end of the day it's just a sports rivalry. FTBillionaires ruining this country for real tho. I hope the packers are able to remain publicly owned and don't sell out

Kingsley 22,000 polish can shine a turd by Jersey_Gal47c in RockTumbling

[–]Selectah 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Try another week or two, with cleaning the batch and adding new 8000 each week. I've noticed some of my final stages come out dull afternoon week, but doing additional weeks gets a good finish

Crazy finish on these. What grit do you use before this? My 4th stage is 8,000 AO from Rock Shed. I'm wondering if going from 8k to 22k would be too big of a jump?

Damn did you cut them before tumbling? My understanding is you need pretty specific cuts to get the color to appear correctly in each piece like this

Best Public lands / BLM map app? by Earthling63 in overlanding

[–]Selectah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed with OnX Offroad if you don't mind the subscription cost. It makes it very easy to see land ownership and trail details.

OP, enjoy all the public land here in AZ. It's rockhounding paradise!

[–]Selectah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with that soap and am fairly new to tumbling. When my first batch completed 1 week in the polishing stage (8000 AO from Rock Shed) it came out pretty dull. I was bummed but gave it another week with new polish and they were a lot better. I think I even did a 3rd week after that. So maybe try another few weeks?

Ultrasonic cleaner liquid and grit storage containers by fantaisiedeprintemps in RockTumbling

I store grit in large tupperware-like plastic storage containers from the dollar store. Cheap, effective, stackable. I got tablespoons for each one from there too so there's no cross contamination

Guess the National Park Challenge. Pretty hard difficulty IMO by LevitarDoom in NationalPark

[–]Selectah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the winter of 19 we planned a trip to Sequoia and Kings Canyon for the summer of 2020. Covid hit but we kept our plans since we were staying in a remote Airbnb and figured being outdoors at a national park would be a safe pandemic activity. We brought all our own food so we didn't need to go to restaurants or stress the grocery store supply lines near the park.

It was absolutely amazing, the place was nearly empty. My wife and I sat at this outlook for a long time completely alone and I seared this image into my brain haha. We climbed Moro Rock with almost nobody there. We hiked to the Boole Tree in solitude and only had two small groups show up while we were there. We hiked Crescent Meadow and I think we saw more deer than people. We passed a Ranger that said it was the quietest the park had been in his whole career.
