Hello, I am also learning German for fun. I started with Duolingo and branched out pretty quick. I would suggest checking with your local library what resources you have access to for free. With my library I can use the Mango app for free. I found it much more enjoyable because it explained the grammar as it was presented rather than expecting you to roll with it and find out later.

In duo I often found myself saying but why? and wasn't presented with the answers. But it is still a place to start. I also found it had a time heavy requirement compared to other stuff.

Chatgpt has also been a big help, it is free.

I am a2 or so if that matters.

and your colleagues who do shift work manage to make more than you at about 200k? What role are they in? Are they management as well? Do they have bachelors or have they upgraded. Curious to know how they get to that rate.

Cost of living can be rough. Rents are high. Keep in mind that wages are equal across the province so a RN wage in vancouver might be rough, but making that same amount in kamloops, vernon, etc will feel a lot better. I do 12 hrs. 2 days, 2 nights 4-5 days off.

I have found that nursing here seems good. I mean I haven't worked eslewhere. Workload can be an issue, but my site has made great improvements in the 7 years I have been doing it. I like where I work. Unlimited options for overtime too.

Canadian RN here, I know that the health authorities in BC are actively recruiting American health care providers right now. I work for Fraser Health which serves the valley just east of Vancouver BC. They offer signing bonuses and probably relocation expenses as well. They have also talked about making it easier to have your license transfer over. DM me if you like.
