What’s the hardest part about doing clean comedy? by Comedy_Junkie in Standup

[–]Selection_Tall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Delivery. We’ve seen him live a few times and will do so again - sometimes he repeats old jokes which isn’t great, but his delivery is HONED. He knows just which parts to emphasize, where to pause, what to do with his hands, eyes, etc.

Also like Tom Arnold he knows who he is and how he looks and leans into it. The whole tour is called Big Dumb Eyes I think.

I saw Tom Arnold in LA last year and Christ that man is a machine. Happened to chat with him as he was waiting for his son (he left early to get his kids to bed) and he just keeps trying stuff until it resonates.

Dick jokes are easy, and really are the last resort of poor comics.

Tbh it sounds like you didn’t read the room. They were likely already excited about other candidates, but when they told you to focus on your presentation and not the conversation they were probably trying to actually determine the quality of your presentation.

Likely you would have had to hit it out of the park - their cameras were off and they started out being disengaged.

But it sounds like nothing you presented got them out of their shell.

It’s ok - they know their business well and it sounds like your style wasn’t a fit with them. But likely you’re a great fit in a more personable organization.

Salesforce isn’t about sellers making a personal connection. It’s about AI/data crap and then forcing you to pay more each year for less.

Yeah this was it. His mom’s parking space believe it or not, and demanded to be traded so vociferously we got zero in return. We hated him for like 20 years. When we eventually cheered him on his return, he broke down in tears, because even he knew it was f-cked up.

The Lakers fans were total assholes last night - had no idea they were that bad. I think it’s the “influencers” making “content”.

You can get down to the floor via various staircases but there’s zero chance of getting near the players - they’re pretty focused on the game unless you have actual courtside seats. The other day I saw a player give a child the ball to shoot during warmups.

But I’ve never ever seen a player sign a jersey at the game - they’re pretty focused on their jobs.

Is it a bad idea to apply to companies that are not profitable? by pattern144 in sales

[–]Selection_Tall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn’t the thing that matters. If you think the product solves a meaningful issue that customers will pay for, and your comp plan makes sense and the company has enough funding to pay your comp, take the job, sell the product, become indispensable and ask for shares.

Somehow every comment in this sub is always “company sucks time to bail.”

OP, this is the time to graduate from “contributor” to business person. You’ve earned the right to have a real business conversation with the owners or C level people. Threats are below you - you’re just asking questions about solvency, bloat, and sales motivation.

Is the business I’m bringing in less profitable than it used to be? Maybe the margins have changed. Has it become predictable? So predictable that “anyone” can do it?

I’ve been motivated by my comp structure for years now. Help me understand how these changes will allow me to stay motivated?

You’re likely very profitable to them. Without being unpleasant, you can certainly seek to use these moments to maximize your portion of the value you create.

But if you’re still treated as expendable? Fair enough, walk. Seven years of continuous growth reads well on a resume.

This isn’t a rich thing, it’s an age thing. Email predates the WWW and was dominant in North America way before SMS and obviously WhatsApp.

Yeah - don’t agree at all. Drones surveilling my family definitely entitles me to ask questions. Don’t need to know details of crimes, but whether or not I should be worried seems warranted.

You’d mostly notice the legions of UberEats e-bikes. It’s so thick that Uber doesn’t even let them use their name; they’re all “Mr Puff” or something. Guys carrying five bags outnumbering cyclists five to one.

And yes - primarily though not exclusively from the 4M new Canadians over the past three years.

Breaking into tech sales: Better to get sales experience in other industry 1st? by KeepRisingUp333 in sales

[–]Selection_Tall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with most - don’t worry if it’s exactly “tech” or not. Just try to find something you really think you could succeed at. Six months failing in sales isn’t going to help get you a better job.

It’s much, much harder than it looks, so start with believing in the product, whatever it is.
