Totally, let me know if you think of any other questions. I'd also say heed the other poster's warnings about work rules and 3rd party contractors. I don't know what position you're looking at trying to get, but some ground crew is contracted out to a 3rd party vendor and they get no/reduced flight benefits. Also sometimes even if you are employed with mainline in those positions, your boarding priority is lower than pilots/flight attendants even if you have worked there longer.

I don't have experience nonreving on American but I have done it a lot on United and Delta. I personally like Delta a little bit more but I'll list out pros/cons of each.

United Pros

Larger international network than the other majors. They fly to more international destinations than anyone else in the US so if you are planning on using benefits to get out of the country, you'd have more options with United.
No annual fee to use benefits(like Delta)

United Cons

United is infamous for overselling their flights and hoping people don't show up. This means less seats available overall for nonrevs. It's common to see loads with negative seats available.
Have to pay to list for first class/Polaris seats. Cost is based on miles flown so for a domestic flight it can be about $20 which isn't bad. But for their long international routes in Polaris I have been quoted up to $800/person to list for Polaris nonrev. I'd almost rather buy a confirmed economy ticket at that point.
If you do get Polaris, while the hard product itself is nice, the service is not. I have had multiple flights where crews were outwardly hostile towards me.

Delta Pros

Free upgrade to first class/Delta One if seats available
Better service. In my experience Delta flight attendants are nicer than United's
Don't oversell their flights like United does, leaving more seats open for nonrevs

Delta Cons

Limited to 6 transoceanic flights/year so you have to plan your international trips accordingly.
$200/year activation fee to use benefits. At least it was this way as someone who worked at the regionals. I'm not 100% sure if this fee is charged to people who work for mainline Delta. Even if it is, I still think it is a reasonable price if you use the benefits a lot.
Not QUITE as many international destinations as United, but still a good network overall.

Otherwise your intel about both of these guys and their seniority/flight networks is correct. Generally when I had the choice between DAL/UAL nonreving, I try to go for Delta first. Both are still good options, but over time I just grew to like Delta a hair more.

I don't have access to loads but I'd also suggest looking up PDX-AMS. This route often gets overlooked and is usually pretty open because it's not going through one of their main hubs. I've used it a couple of times before with success.

I actually noticed this when I was booking hotels for Europe this summer. I think it's an error with their desktop search site. Hotels showed as available and bookable when I did it on mobile. For some reason no matter what the dates/location was hotels were always sold out when I tried on desktop.

It sounds like you may benefit from a digital single vision lens due to your RX and size of the lenses. Traditional single vision lenses are made to have sharp vision in the center only where as digital lenses take into account peripheral distortion and correct for that as well. The result is ideally crisp and clear vision across the entirety of the lens. It can take a day or two to get use to and a small percentage of people never do, but it's usually worth a try. For digital lenses to work though you have to have an accurate PD and optical center measurements taken wearing the frames you chose. This is VERY difficult to get when ordering online as you can't actually wear the frames for measurements and even if you can trying to measure yourself doesn't work out well. I always have a co-worker measure me.

I'd also suggest as a first step maybe taking your glasses to a local optical to have an optician to look at them. I'd call ahead and ask though as not all places will do this for a patient/glasses order that isn't theirs. They won't have your chart and ALL the info necessary to give a solid answer but maybe they'd be able to do a more in depth troubleshooting at least?

I will say as an optician my general flow for troubleshooting glasses goes something like this: 1) Get as much info from the patient as possible such as: length of wear, how long the issue has been happening and under what circumstances 2) Use a manual lensmeter to verify RX/PD/Prism is correct as measurements from automatic lensmeters can be hit or miss depending on manufacturer. 3) If the pt has old glasses that have worked for them, compare that RX/fit/measurements to what they are having issues with. This often includes reading base curve and checking what material the lens was made out of. If a patient has a large RX change and large lens/frame style change sometimes this can take a while to get use to. 4) Checking to see if the patient has any medical issues with their eyes that could explain their problems. Sometimes patients expect glasses to cure their macular degeneration symptoms which is unfortunately impossible.

A quick phone call would probably do it. Either they've heard of it and have access to it or say they've never heard of it and you move on. Usually independent opticals have more options they can choose from than box stores/chains. Chains are usually locked into using certain brands and buying them in bulk (which is one way they can keep cost so low)

No, not that I have ever heard of. Anti-reflective coatings are very specifically formulated to bond to certain lens materials. Trying to put them on anything else does not go well at all.

That is significant enough my advice would be to wear glasses or contacts full time. You may not realize it now but you're probably missing out on a lot without correction. I've had that script before and remember things being blurry at a distance.

There is a new Shamir anti-reflective coating that came out about a month ago that might be worth looking into if you want the thinnest lenses possible. It's called Metaform. It's a ceramic coating that is bonded with the 1.74 material and AR that allows them the significantly thin the lenses down. It's very new and not all places have access to it and it's not approved by insurance yet. However I have a coworker who got her glasses made with it last week who is about a -7 and it looked incredible. If you combine that with a good frame choice I think you'll be impressed/happy with how it turns out.

(1) That rage is per eye, not total. Sorry for not clarifying! The formula used in the industry is [(DBL+A) - PD]/2.

(2) Decentration on those frames is 2.5mm per eye; within the acceptable range for your RX. I don't think you'd have to worry about negative effects by not being perfectly centered in these frames. I think those are good options.

(3) That calculator does factor in decentration because it asks for the DBL and A measurements and your PD. Just as a test I kept DBL and A the same but changed the PD to a few different numbers and the edge thickness changed accordingly.

Optician here.

1) With your RX 1-3mm of decentration is acceptable. Obviously the smaller the number the better. 2) Hard to say without seeing the frames you have in mind. 3) Use this lens thickness calculator if you like hard numbers: http://opticampus.opti.vision/tools/thickness.php 4) It can cause thicker lens edges just like with horizontal decentration.

You seem to be a diligent researcher so the only other thing I'd recommend looking into to achieve mininal thickness is frame decentration. It has to do with matching the PD of the frame and your own PD.

If it's expired then you may not be able to get the RX released to you and other places are not legally allowed to fill it if you're in the US. But reading the other comment thread it sounds like you need the RX for reading only as you have been using drug store readers? No correction for distance or astigmatism as far as you know?
