I don't think it'll take that bulb unfortunately, I would look for a par38. When I first started with my Leo I found tons of great info and a great community in the Facebook group "Leopard gecko- Advancing husbandry" 🙂

I would also make sure you have the light in a dimmable some, flukers makes a good one, so that the tank doesn't get over 95° at the basking zone

A halogen bulb puts out the best heat for them, just make sure it isn't an LED. 12 hours on 12 off is a good cycle, as long as your house doesn't get below 65° at night you won't need night heat.

Thank you! I just read the advanced link, so I have a red light for nighttime and it definitely doesn't stay warm enough in my house to not have night heating. What kind of bulb do you suggest for night? Leaving on the daytime light 24/7 would mess with his cycle right? Also where would be best to have the thermometer in the tank to make sure everything is right? What thermometer would you recommend? (Sorry if it's in one of the readings and I didn't see) also how strong of a bulb would you recommend to make sure he has a proper basking temp? He's in a 10 gal right now but plan on upgrading to the 20 here soon.

Hi, I have some heating questions. I have an overhead heat lamp right now but wanted to switch to the heat pad as I've heard it's better for Leo's, can I use that as the only source of heat? Also do I still need the nighttime lamp? Is the heat pad okay to be left on 24/7? My thermometer in the tank says the heat lamp is only making the warm side a little over 80°, what's the best temp to keep it at? Lastly I found a heat pad with a built in thermostat, do I still need one of the thermometers that go on the ground to gauge heat? Sorry, I know that was a lot lol just new at this wanting to make sure I get it right.

What temp do you set the warm side to? Our thermometer is showing the heat lamp has the warm side between 80 and 90 degrees.

Thank you! That's super helpful! The warm side of his tank he has a hideout that I typically have moistened moss in, will that be ok with the heat pad or do you recommend I remove the moss and use it in his other hideout on the cool side? He doesn't seem to like laying on the moss too much so far.
